On September 5 and 6, 1991 I did a naked sun stare, naked
thorn hill climb, and had a blue rose vision. These are
described in detail on
http://www.nfld.com/~dalton/sunstare.html
which is a subsubpage of my Salmon on the Thorns page (see below).
But though the naked thorn hill climb was extremely painful
the (blackberry?) thorns were somewhat blunt so I didn't
bleed very much. But I think the multiple thorn piercings
of my hands and feet acted (though painful) like acupuncture
by nature to awaken my hands and feet.
Also, from that subsubpage, with a minor typo edit:
"Also for the first few days my thorn-damaged hands received
mini-shocks from metal cutlery, so I had to wrap it in a
paper towel. I think this was some kind of acupuncture/chi
effect, due to the natural acupuncture effect of the thorns,
and may be why many Asians do not use metal cutlery, but
instead other materials."
So do you know of any living or past (even in folktales)
figures who have gone through a similar thorny experience?
And I wonder if acupuncture originated with such a
thorny experience?
