As many of you know my eldest moved to Oz over 18 months ago and has been
working damned hard for 18 months albeit being very well paid for his
efforts. Daughter in law and both young grand daughters have settled in
well and are doing well at their schools. The main objective is to settle
there permanently but that ambition has been hit by, what could be a
disaster. 3 days after returning to Perth 3 weeks ago following their 4
week holiday over here visiting friends and relatives, he was made
redundant as a building contract his employers were trying to obtain fell
through, so eldest is job hunting. He told me bout hour ago that if he
can't land more employment within 6 - 8 weeks he faces being deported back
over here.
I'm gobsmacked that such a short period is employed. Perhaps I shouldn't
have been so shocked, but that's probably because I have been kind of
subliminally brainwashed over the years by our past and present governments'
views of immigration and human rights over here.

It certainly does seen a very short period although they have much stricter
immigration controls than the UK.

I wish him my best and hope he secures a job before that happens.

That is awful news FN - I did not know they had restrictions as harsh as
that. I do hope he can find employment very soon indeed.

I hope so too. In the fortnight since being told the bad news he has
attended 4 interviews and is currently (today) attending a recall from
one of them. As he was originally head hunted by the Ozzie company
that employed him I would have expected better safe guards being written
into his contract though. I suppose the large salary must have been
that though.

He's just 'phoned to say that he got the job he had a second interview
for yesterday, on a 3 month trial basis.
Apparently he will be based in one of the suburbs of Perth and has
responsibilities in areas around Newman, way up in the north where he
was working before for 3 weeks in 4. In the new job he will be away
from base 1 week in 4 so that's an improvement. However the salary
will be less than before, so they will have to downsize, I think
that's the term he used, domestically, and move house, but hopefully
not too far.

I am pleased your son has got the job and hope everything goes o.k. for the
trial period and hopefully they will not have to downsize too much. Very
good luck to them. and good wishes.

Just arrived home from our evening meal with the gang and read this great
news. He's done very well to secure that position in such a short time,
credit to him, very well done and I hope it all works out well for him, FN.

Oh yes Splodge. Thought I'd already reported back.

He was offered a new job but had to take a salary cut, but it's doing
much the same as before except this time he has more teams to be
responsible for. One large benefit is that he is still based in Perth
but now travels north to mine sites in the same area as before only 1
week in 4 instead of 3 weeks in 4. He started work on a 3 months trial
Monday last week. Not heard how he's going on in the job yet, but
then it's early days.
