What is a entry-level price to get into the hobby of Ham radio? Middle

If you just want Tech Class privileges you can get the equipment for a
couple hundred bucks, e.g. a Handheld Transceiver. Mid-range would be a
Yaesu or an ICOM.

There used to be a Uniden desk radio for 10 meters that Radio Shack sold
dirt cheap. (Tech Class can also work HF on 10 meters.)

HF radios (aka "shortwave") start at about $100 used (take an experienced
ham with you to the swap meet.) Building cheap wire antennas is fun.

Do you do any SWL or scanner monitoring?

You can run the gambit from a couple hundred all the way up to and including
"if you have to ask, you can't afford it"

Check with your local club(s) to see what they can do to help.... somebody
might have something in the back of the closet that they will turn loose of.
Your local club members can also give you first hand info on many different
makes/models/ capabilities. They can also be a great resource for technical
info, as well as for help with putting a station together and getting you on
the air.

I have no idea today. My equipment dates from the 70,s and at that time it cost me
$1600 including the tower and antenna and it's installation. I usually were on the
70 m band and I have not fired up the unit in 3 years but kept up with my license.
Thinking seriously about starting again but time restriction is holding me back.
I saw a Motorola transceiver a few weeks ago for $2100

will run circles around old Moto stuff as far as features go.

What a racket. I'm hooked on benzos and ssri's because of big pharma.

I am trying to go all 'natural', but its not working well. I'm torn, I
had a doc. appt. on Thursday but cancelled it at the last minute. I
don't know who to trust, and I'm afraid my 'natural' cure is not
working, possibly making it worse. I don't want to dick around with
'new' drugs. I need an island to calm the fuck down and get off
everything.

actually vhf and uhf are usful for quite a distance. on 2 meters SSB we are working easily 175 miles and almost the same on 70cm. KØIMJ beamspinners.com
