Can anyone advise if UHF CB freq are same in USA as in Australia?

I will soon be visiting USA and am wanting to use my existing UHF hand-held
transceiver to talk with truckies etc.

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

ShaneO

That's 470MHz or thereabouts, right? I don't *think* the US has CB other
than around 27MHz. There is the so-called Family Radio Service (FRS),
but I don't recall the frequency, and I don't think truckers would use
it -- low-power handhelds, promoted by ads. claiming distances as great
as 7 miles (from mountain-top to mountain-top on a clear day, probably).

No it's not. Australian UHF CB is on 476-477 MHz 40 channels 5W and is used
in Aus. & New Zealand only. The US 'equivalent' is around 462-467 MHz 14
channels 0.5W (but isn't CB).

If you take and use your Australian UHF hand held in the USA I'm sure that
the FCC (the US version of ACA) over there will be most interested in
speaking with you as well!!

Have a look at http://www.fcc.gov for info on the licence free bands in the
USA, etc. 27MHz CB band is the same so you could always use that!!!

Cheers

The US equivalent is called FRS (Family Radio Service) with 14
channels, and 1/2 watt max, no license.

There is also GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) which requires a
no-test license, and allows more power (although very few units go
over 2W). 7 frequencies are identical to some of the FRS frequencies,
pluse 8-GMRS only ones.

None of these frequencies match the Australian UHF CB ones.

Happy trails,

Thanks everyone for your replies - I now understand that I can't use my
Australian UHF CB in the USA - for more reasons than one!

At least you had the common sense to ask first!! Have fun while in the US -
you could always get a 27MHz hand-held and talk to the truckies on that
band.....

You can buy a Children's band radio to use for "trucker" communications for
$39 dollars in American money. You could leave yours at home and buy one
when you get here.
