Yesterday (Sep 3, 2011) I made a nice rainscatter QSO with K2YAZ in
Michigan. He's in EN74av and I'm in EN45fa, so the distance was 440 Km
or 274 miles. Not bad with my 1.5W to my converted DirecTV dish. He
runs 18W, so finding him was very easy. He peaked at about S-3 on my
stingy meter. He gave me a 53 report.

At home, I have obstructed paths in most directions due to trees or big
hills. I was set up in the ditch along the road out in front of my
house. My township is called Cook's Valley for a reason ;) Now why
would a VHF and up ham buy in a valley? ;)

Anyways, it just proves to me that with a little rain enhancement, just
about anybody should be able to make some QSOs on 10 GHz, even from
lousy locations...
