I have a recollection of an item in QST back in the 1970s detailing a trans-Atlantic tropo opening. The wife of an American serviceman stationed at
Lajes Field in the Portuguese Azores told her ham husband of interference to the local Lajes Field FM broadcast station -- which was the only FM
station within a few hundred miles. By the time the opening was over the ham had heard FM broadcast signals from both mainland Europe **and the
mainland U.S.**.

I've been trying to find this item in late-1970s QSTs (PDF archive on arrl.org accessible to members) but haven't been having much luck. I know it
appeared no earlier than 1973 as I joined the League (and began reading QST) early that year.

Does anyone out there remember this item -- and know *which* QST it appeared in?
