Yeah thats right. They have it rougher. For one thing all the "elite" are
bitching because they ask how to hack. Come on. You "elite" have it easier
because you basically built the damn things. Follow? HACKERS BUILT THE
INTERNET! Ok? Comprende? Good. Next point is that the media has dilluted the
definition of hacking as it has with other kick-ass subcultures like cyberpunks
and goths. Sure the movies look great, but they don't always accurately
portray the current status of the culture. When I watched _The Net_ and
_Hackers_ I about fell off the couch at the ridiculousness of it all. Nice
bullshit Leonardo Virus. How many viruses do you know that'll talk to you
through de Vinci's Vitruvian Man? Not many. And what's with the 3D algorithms
floating by? Geeze, that'd slow down the computer major. Despite what the
movies depict not everything is wired up. No you can't access your school's
sprinkling system. Hell, most of the computers in my school are outdated IBMs
or Apple IIe's. Really sounds like the "reality" the movies portray eh?
No wonder these "newbies" can be a pant load. The media has spoon fed them
frosted covered cheerios when the real world is shredded wheat. Oh joy. It
pisses me off when I try to find "real" stuff on hacking and cyberpunks and I
get shit about stuff that the media has propogated. Geeze, get the toupee
wearing lamerz off the screen and get an authority who understands the subject
will ya? The public does not understand what they are dealing with. The
Internet could be used as a MAJOR source of power. And anybody can access it.
Its like giving an atom bomb to every body who asks for a C-4. There's just
too much freakin' power for the average guy to handle.
Okay, I think I might have gotten off topic somewhere. No I don't proclaim to
be some "elite" hacker. Heck, I've never even hacked. But I have the will to
learn, so I guess depending on if you get the real definition and not the
media's I could be considered among the "elite."
