Hello,

I am hesitating between these two guitars but since I cannot actually try
the D28 I wondered in what it was different from the HD28. I know about
the guitar look but what about sound and playing style?

Thank you for your help.

Apart from cosmetics, the D28 has unscalloped bracing, while that of the
HD28 is scalloped. Which you prefer is a matter of taste. Most prefer the
more "open" sound of the HD28, but the last time I tried them side by side,
I preferred the "tighter" sound of the D28 for fingerpicking. It's very hard
to generalise, because every individual guitar is different, and two of the
same model might be more different than two similar guitars of the two
different models.

FWIW, for lead and fingerstyle I personally prefer the D18 to either of
them, but I could be in a minority.

I always thought the "H" referred to the herringbone style of the
white trim around the sides of the top- just a bit fancier trim on the
same guitar.

The "H" does refer to herringbone, but the model has more than cosmetic
differences from the standard model. You can find details on the Martin
website.
