Has anyone ever broken the screw / spring that hold the saddle on for
a Strat? I have no idea how, but the thing shot off and is now
somewhere in my basement.. (I still have the saddle) Can anyone tell
me: How do I go about getting this fixed or finding the screw/spring
to replace it

First thing I'd try would be to go to my local non-chain-store guitar
repair shop. If they do any good amount of business, they probably have
spare parts, and they might sell you just the one you need, so you
won't have to buy a whole set.

If it's an import Strat with
an Asian-made bridge, those
screws have an ISO thread as
used in stereo equipment and
TVs -- the same thread is
used for the mounting screws
of a PC's CD/DVD drive. IIRC
the older, U.S.-made Strat
bridges used 4-40 machine
screws. The springs are
nothing special, one from a
click-style ballpoint pen
should work fine, although
you might have to shorten it
a bit. If you get stuck,
just e-mail me and I'll send
off a few from my extensive
collection of miscellaneous
guitar hardware. :-)

Or, combining you and Nil, take the saddle down to the local mom and
pop store and test a few screws in it from their box of parts.

Use, cut a PU adjustment spring in half or third for the bridge, and
stretch the remainder for the PU.

All that stuff is on Ebay. Starts at tons for nothing, and goes up
from there depending on how picky a strat actually is.
