Sad. Way, way too young. I'm always amazed when I see the BeeGees do
so much with so little.

It's hard to match really good sibling harmony. Robin and Barry both
wrote a lot of top shelf material for other artists. Robin's son is
also a fair songwriter. The Bee Gees were never my musical meat and
potatoes, but they had real talent in spades.

It seems that Barry was the only one who played the guitar. But they were
primarily a vocal group, an excellent vocal group by the way. And they wrote
their own songs.

So what would you do with many of the artists who built early rock n roll?
Toss 'em aside? Do you discount the Everly Brothers (average guitar
strummers at best), Johnny Cash (a very weak guitarist), Elvis (another
strummer who didn't even write)?

The Byrds (with the exception of McQuinn) were not allowed to play on their
first recording- Mr Tambourine Man- they weren't considered to be good
enough by the producers.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the early Bee Gees ("I Started a Joke", etc.),
but was never a huge fan. I'm just surprised that anyone would reduce their
contribution to music just because they weren't a "band'. Oops, there goes
Whitney Houston, Frank Sinatra, and Frankie Valli...

I think you've misunderstood jimmy. I don't think he's reducing their
contribution at all. I think he meant (referencing the clip he posted) that
they sounded great DESPITE only being accompanied by a single guitar (and a
bass in the background).

My misunderstanding is very possible Rich. It happens more and more often
these days... :-) Because I've never heard them with just a single guitar
and bass (I thought their music was always highly orchestrated), I may have
misconstrued his meaning. I mean, a capella groups don't rely on ANY
instruments, and sometimes they sound like full orchestras if the group is
large enough.

Yep, thanks.
