Just my $ .02: I use (in some combination with an A/B switch) a Mesa Boogie
Rocket 44, a Tech 21 Trademark 10 and Trademark 60 as well as a Crate GFX120
and an -OLD- Peavey Classic (circa 1977 model)...they all have their sound
but the Tech 21's are the best sounding solid state amps I've heard. You
might want to take a look at the Trademark 10. I usually use the Trademark
60 on the "4x12 classic" setup and switch to the Rocket 44 for that "Mesa"
sound...
I bought my first amp in 1963 (Gibson Falcon) and have tried or owned one of
everything that's supposed decent. A lot of the stuff is just plain junk.
Peavey's amps aren't really too bad depending on what you use for a guitar
and what you expect to come out of the amp...takes a little messing around
to get a decent sound. I can't comment on the Johnson or Line 6 modelling
amps or the Fender Cyber-Twin. Haven't tried them, don't really intend to.
I'm particularly uncomfortable with amps that turn their own knobs (like the
Cyber Twin and the Crate whatever-it-is). Another amp that I had that I
thought gave a decent sound was a Roland Blues Cube 60. Still, all in all,
it's your ears that determine what's crap and what isn't.
The best sounding amp I ever had was a Mesa Mark IIb that I bought new
umpteen centuries ago and it's still being used every weekend by the fellow
I sold it to. I have this current hodge-podge of amps for the reason there's
more than one club in a golf bag: there are some things that some amps are
better at than others. If I had to pick one, it would be the Mesa with the
Trademark 60 as a second choice.
Like I said, just my $ .02 ....

also Pignose GV40 (40w) $250 and Fender Blues Jr around $350 (15w)
when i first began i used to play on those. ugghhhh i hate little amps. now
i use a bass amp (crate bx-200) conected with my zoom 505(nice little
effects petal) hooked onby two 8ohm bass speakers(like huge ass subwoofers
n' shit) u wouldnt think my guitar would sound good through sumthin like
that but it sounds great. i tune my guitar down like 6 steps or sumthin like
that ( tuned down so that my heavy string is down to an a) and that does
the trick. i use the same setup with my bass to just that i unhook my zoom
505 petal. the whole setup was...
crate bx-200--------------------------bought off my bro
for--------------------------$100
crate bass speaker-----------------again from my bro cause hes a
quiter---$50
a cerwin b-119-----------------------got from an
auction-----------------------------$105
zoom 505 effects petal------------bought it_it makes anyamp sound good--$75
all that cumz 2gether to $330 for a good expensive system, but the trick to
getin it for that cheap is... 1.)auctions, especally church 1s cause its
full of old people. 2.)buy it from stupid people. 3.)buy used, most of its
as good as new
thats all i use but my guitar is a esp f-200 (recomend) and an esp f-207 and
i just got a p.r.s
i use heavey bottom slinky top on all except for my f-200 i use all 58s on
the top 4 and then i use a 42 on the last 3. i got some tight springs in the
back and i tune it down really low so it gives a unique bass tone.
and thats all i do for my guitar playin, thats all i got to say exept...
i love my guitars
