those drums are made from a light weight wood, coconut or similar.
I recently bought a set of congas. The wood is palm and I was
surprised at how rough it is inside. Kinda cool though.
That would be very rare... most congas are Siam oak.
Is the wood 2-3" thick? Then it might be palm. If
you can look inside and see seams, it's certainly oak.

These are the ones I got.
It says rubber wood. I guess I assumed that is palm. It is pretty
rough inside though. Almost too 'hairy' for oak that I'm familiar
with.
