Looks to be just a dedicated vol/tone for each p-up and a master vol
at the bottom. No big deal. Good tone ain't about more knobs/more p-
ups anyway....
Wow, that is a few knobs! Reminds me of an old Hagstrom I had, but
they were the little slide switches, not knobs....and they never
seemed to do much anyway.

All that hardware and still limited to the Strat set of pickup
selections. What a waste.
p.s...I thought I saw Billy Gibbons playing one of those the other night
on TV.
Nah...it's proven. More knobs = more tone.
oh yeah ?

Maybe, but still you can't get bridge + neck pickups together or all
three.

Heh...that line was at the beginning of "The Chicken Heart", one of my
favorite Cosby routines.
I've passed on a few amps simply because they had double rows of
knobs...just don't like it.
I'll take promo gear any day ...
For sure, the simpler the better IMO. The Epi VJ is the epitome of that,
just one knob. Like its master. ;-)
Mark
IMO .. The intent is to "blend" the PU's with the volume setting of
each .. add a P/P phase switch and split coils ...
I can barely keep track of 2 knobs ... 7 .. no way, but the *cool*
factor is beyond measurement.

a Gretsch ..
I agree, but I also have to admit...I had an Epi VJ combo....and I
missed the tone knobs as well as a reverb. So I guess I need at least
three knobs on an amp to be really happy. Guitars is another story, it
depends on the guitar. I have one that i modded to have zero knobs,
and I'm fine with it.
More Knobs = Less Tone.

But that selector switch -- does it even allow you to have all three
pickups on at once so you *can* blend 'em?

Heh...you're right (just googled it). You gotta admit, there are
certain similarities!
I'll confess to using a Graphic Eq with my epi, but I could just have
easily used a treble booster or get around to installing that damned
bright switch.
I don't use guitar tone controls a lot as a like them as clean as
possible mostly. Sometimes I tweak the neck pup tone a little. What I do
like is middle and neck with tone down on the neck pup, on a Strat. Very
tasty.
Mark
That depends. Are they vintage knobs with lots of mojo, or cheap
imitation "re-issues"?
...but those vintage knobs aren't true bypass...

Mod them.
It's well worth it. Vintage knobs are more dense and thus resonate
better.
...that's only because the new ones are chambered. That's supposed to
make them sound "vintage", but I don't think purists are buying it.

That ain't nothin'... you haven't seen the new JXX Super Duper?

Useless .. what where they thinking ... IT HAS NO TREMOLO !!!!!
At least they are not Epiphone or MIM Fender knobs.
But it *does* have *ten* treble knobs.
I need that in an amp.

Steve
.
The *cool* factor over rides that limitation.
yowza! thats almost as bad as my old Boogie Mk4.
i think it was Johnny winter who said, they ruined the Fender Twin when
they put a midrange knob on it.
