Here's one for all us aging hippies.

Stealin' was originally recorded by Gus Cannons Jug Stoppers (or something)
in the 1920's. Covered in the 1960's by several folk/rock/hippy bands
including Arlo Guthrie.

I more or less know the tune so just the words and chords would be OK.
But if I can get the tab, that would be great.

Thanks.

Gus Cannons Jug Stompers.

I would also be interested in words/chords/tab.

Anyone know if the original recording is available anywhere?

If I'm thinking of the same song, I only heard it once by Taj Mahal,
but I've never forgotten the chorus. I don't remember what key he
played it in (I think everything he did was in open tuning anyway),
but I play it in G. Here's the chorus as I remember it:

G G
Stealin', Stealin'

C G#dim Bdim Ddim Fdim
Ah Mama don't you tell on me

G D7 G
I'm stealin on back to my same ole used-to-be.

The diminished chords look like this,
and just slide up the neck every 3 frets:

G#dim Bdim Ddim Fdim
|---4------7-----10----13---------
|---3------6-----9-----12---------
|---4------7-----10----13---------
|---3------6-----9-----12---------
|---------------------------------
|---4------7-----10----13---------

I know its a bit late replying, but thanks for the info on this. Seems more likely it was originally the Memphis Jug Band rather than Gus Cannon.

But shouldn't it be G dim not G# dim after the C?
