This is the song I've been talking about as being my "Stairway to
Heaven"...I hope you like it.

Cheers,

Good stuff. Are you doing all the vocals and Instruments? It remind's me
a lot of Claptons 80's stuff. Which is good ;-)

I can't deny your wanting to see if it has some commercial legs - it's
really pretty good! You mentioned it earlier as being a Clapton/
Knopfler hybrid of sorts. Good description. Did you purposely cut it
off mid-stream (about 1:58), or, did my player boot it out at that
point?

I loved the Aiwa commercial with the hearse driver playing "Another
One Bites the Dust" as he carried the dead body in a funeral
procession.

I couldn't get it to open, something wrong with the JavaScript, maybe at my

It's the 70s again! ;-) (not a bad thing)

I started thinking of Good Morning Vietnam with that.
I sort of like it, but it seems a bit too "generic" and doubt it'll have
much appeal these days. But what do I know.

I'd just send it to a whole bunch of newsgroups. The singing / production /
songwriting / arranging / engineering / playing ... are so brilliant that
you won't need to do anything else ...

It's promising, but you have much to learn, gwasshoppa.

First, soloing over the vocal is rarely a good idea.

Second, your singing is good, but needs developing. Put more air into it -
sing from the chest.

I'd guess you don't gig much? Maybe you should. It can be harsh, but it's a
great way of learning to separate wheat/chaff.

I'd hate to discourage you - you do have talent, and you should develop it.
It's a worthy first effort, but to be blunt, it's not (yet) gonna earn you
your pension. Keep at it, and also learn some production values (backing
track and overall mix kinda sucks)... In 5-10 years I'd be happy to spend
real money to buy your album.

Stackridge were big in the early/mid 70s, while Sniff really kicked off
around '79 (?) with "Driver's Seat", which still gets a lot of airplay. Both
bands have produced shedloads of albums, so I can't answer the "where"
question - it's too many places. One of Stackridge's albums was done at
Abbey Road, with George Martin producing...

From your other, earlier post:

>> care to show me a band from your site that you think has "snatched that
>> stone from your hand" <<

Well, there are a few. Some personal favourites:
- Robbie McIntosh is the most superb guitarist - was Paul McCartney's
axeman for several years, and has a session CV as long as your arm.
Currently on tour (again) with John Mayer.
- The Gliders: swamp-rock. Love 'em.
- The Blackjacks (friends of mine): take a listen to "Let's talk about
it". Blues shuffle with attitude ;).
- Bob Weston (ex-Fleetwood Mac). "There's a Heaven" was done locally in a
little studio (Bob's a pal), but it sounds mahoosive. Again, I love it.
- Steve Ellis (ex-Love Affair). Lovely bloke. There again, I'm biased -
that's me on guitar on "As the crow flies" and "Requiem for a tyrant".
Possibly slightly overproduced, with hindsight, but not bad for a converted
garage...
