The gadget in question is a Toneworks Pandora PX4 belt-clip-sized multiFX. I
got it for less than half street price in my mate's clearance sale, in
exchange for another load of bottlenecks.
I bought a Toneworks AX3G a few months ago, the FX were OK but the controls
were too user-unfriendly so I shelved it. The PX4 is much better, many
features are dial-operated and can be adjusted on the fly. These include amp
type and the standard amp controls of gain, tone and volume. Most FX only
have a single control, where the AX3G had three or four, but I reckon this
is a good thing as you don't get lost in a maze of options. The standard
stuff like compression and noise reduction works well, and at least one amp
model is good - the basic Tweed sounds very much like my Fender Blues
Deluxe.
Another feature I'm going to put time in with is the drum machine, given the
number of comments we get here about the value of playing with some kind of
time keeper. It also has an "intelligent" bass player and a 32 second
variable speed looper, but that, the synth and modulation features are a bit
too techno for me.
Cons are no computer connection and no input for an expression pedal.
I think it is great value at the price I paid, the same as a Digitech Bad
Monkey, Oz$100, a few months back. Any one of a dozen different features
would be worth that price.

I use it for travel.
After posting this, I tried one of the harmoniser settings (minor 3rd?) and
mild fuzz with the lap steel. I swear a non-specialist audience would have
mistaken it for genuine modern jazz.

That type of thing would benefit tremendously from an expression pedal.
I've got the Digitech Brian May pedal, one of its settings is a two-note
harmonizer. Tilt forward on the pedal you get maj 3 and 5 when you play
the root, tilt backward you get min 3 and 5 instead.
That sounds useful, but I haven't liked the Digitech digital pedals I've
tried (including the RP series), or the Boss ones for that matter. So far
the only ones that have come close to hitting the spot have been the Korg
ones, but each to his own. An expression pedal would be nice, but the PX4
has a lot of other things going for it - including what I paid for it!
