Description: Bass guitars.

What musical era would you have liked to have been born in?
Sure today we have all the modern basses, strings, amps etc. but if you could go back to a musical era, a sort of a golden age, where instruments, amps and music buisness may have been a lot simpler, what woud it be an why? Are the 60's considered this golden age, in so far as bass playing goes too?... more »

amplifier hum question.
Well, some firiends of mine have a pretty good local band, and they play at various venues around a tri-county area. OK, so I went up town to hear them Sat. and one member and I got to tlaking on their break and he asked me so i thought I'd try to get some ideas here. One place they play is an older brick building with everything that... more »

O/T - Guitar hero
Had a chance to spend some time with this in between food courses at Christmas...The kids had a guitar and drum set. Kind of fun to play along...Do you think that this sort of interactive music software has at least some form of "value" in attracting people to music, or at the very least may be useful to teach them the fundamentals of rhytm?... more »

Counting in a tune
Who generally does this in your band, the drummer (usually by hitting the sticks together) or the person that has the most acute sense of timing? Also, how would you count in an "odd" time signature, such as 9/8? Vince

Who started this "vox" thing?
I keep seeing "vox" instead of "voice" or "vocalist" in craigslist ads. Who started this fad? Seems similar to the tYpINg lIkE tHis trend, or the assorted spastic things done with the hands by rappers, metal fans, and drunk people in bar snapshots.

New Year's Day eb fun - reading Bach
My friend Sue Williams came over yesterday, and we spent some time reading through a few Bach Two-Part Inventions on two electric basses. I played a Cort fretless, and Sue played either my MIM Precision fretted or my Dean fretless. We used the two channels of my setup, an AI Clarus amp @ 400 watts into my 4 ohm AI Contra EX cabinet. This amp will drive... more »

Crazy Winter (and it's not over yet!)
These last couple weeks have been an absolute nightmare, and it's not over yet. Long story short, I live with my mom and little brother in a house that my dad built and it went into foreclosure. We asked our bank (Chase Bank) what we could do to save our home and they gave us a list of things we would be required to do by the end of the year with an agreement... more »

NYE Report
My body clock is completely screwed up after last week - woke up at 5:00AM and can't get back to sleep. So maybe posting this will make me sleepy. To recap, I booked a NYE gig in my hometown of Buffalo NY. I got the gig by reaching out to a buddy of mine from back in the day. I assumed he had long since booked his NYE and I was looking for contacts, but he made me an offer... more »
