Billy Joel's "And So It Goes". Not actual tears, but man, it gets to
me (as I imagine it would get to almost anyone who's had their heart
broken, which is likely everyone over 15 years old).
And almost any Beethoven Symphony. I once teared up while playing the
5th. Yup, actually teared up. Not so much that I couldn't see the
music, but yup. Got to me.

I recently downloaded Laura Nyro's last album that was completed when she
was still alive 1993's "Walk the Dog & Light the Light". It's a great album
co-produced by Nyro and Steely Dan producer Gary Katz.
On the track "Woman of the World" I almost always tear up.... It's such a
great song and she really lays down an extremely soulful vocal without
resorting to any vocal gymastics that are so common this day and age. It
really saddens me that such a great talent had to leave this world a such an
early age (49)... AAMOF the whole album is great and I recommend it
everybody.

I haven't heard that since the emotional (for me anyway) final episode
of Northern Exposure, a favorite show at the time. Seeing her sing it on
youtube makes me realize it was an emotion inspiring song on it's own.

I'm not sure if I'm enough a part of this group to answer, but everyone
has been nice to me, so I'll share something very emotional for me.
My sister and I made a cd of my mother's old 78s. She died when we were
both children, my sister was just a baby. But music runs strong in our
family.
So, the song that always brings me to tears is my mother's recording of
"Si, mi chiamano Mimì" from La Bohème. Actually any of her recordings,
but that one in particular, because I have a copy from before she
studied opera in Italy and the change in her voice from before to after
is remarkable. I only knew her as having a beautiful, powerful voice
full of so much love and emotion and didn't realize that everyone's mom
didn't sing like that.
I hear she told her friends that I was going to be a singer. She tried
to teach me piano, and is probably smiling now that I'm a bass player
and finally understand something of what she knew would bring me
happiness as much as it did to her.

Thanks for sharing such a personal moment. And you're a part of this
group - seems to me the only things you require for membership are
music in your life and a computer. OK, maybe a bass, too. If there
were some dues to pay or audition to pass, no one told me....:-)

my first post here after lurking quite a while. I'm an absolute beginner at
bass, in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, but am picking up a lot of the
"dos and don't"s associated with playing from our newsgroup.
One song that pulls tears from me is 'Ca tha yows' AKA 'Call the ewes',
mainly because my whole family sang it to my father on his death-bed, but
