Any outside chance you have either the moral character or testicular
fortitude to answer the question, or do you just want to continue to
pretend to be a sociopath like Jim Carr who is devoid of moral character?

Given your posting record, it is certainly no surprise that you believe
that a person's moral character is bullshit. Jim Carr has certainly come
to the right place and has found in you at least one other like-minded
piece of human waste.

Totally unnecessary. Anyone interested can start here and work back. The
same is true with regard to Jim Carr's record. Neither you nor Jim Carr
devolved spontaneously overnight into immoral, conscienceless sociopaths.
The record is there on both of you. All anyone needs to do is to review
it.

More tips for puppeteers from the nice people at Folkmanis.

6. The sea otter, small panda, and cats look particularly endearing on
their backs, in the crook of your arm. From this position, have them
gaze at their audience, occasionally hiding their eyes behind their
paws, scratching, or nestling down for a snooze.

Note, I tried the tail flicking tip, but I haven't got any puppets with
flickable tails.

Well, I've searched throughout the folkmanis site and there's really no
information on such things.

But I know you don't really want to see this, otherwise you'd have
simply type 'animal puppet sex' into the youtube search thingy and
posted the results.

But really, you don't want to try that experiment yourself, the results
are horrible. Especially where the keywords don't really match the
video.

I don't trust you, and I am certainly not going to go along with an
ambiguous, non-specific agreement which you can, and almost certainly will,
twist to mean whatever suits your fancy at some later date. After all, we
all know how clever (immoral & dishonest) you are. So, if you are prepared
to leave the web page in place and restore its original content as per the
link below, then we have a deal, and neither you nor any of the other like-
minded scum that reside in this cesspool will hear from me ever again.
Alternatively, we can continue with more of the same here and/or wherever
for the next thirty years. Your choice. Let me know.

Hey, I apologized in public. That's a show of good faith. If there's
something I can do to make you stop visiting this cesspool, then tell
me. You write up the deal, and I'll agree to it if it's within reason.
If I violate the agreement, you can dive right back in.

You've won, Gary. I give up. I admit defeat. I'm not going for a truce.
I'm just trying to negotiate the terms of my surrender.

An apology which, even if sincere, is irrelevant because it will have no
impact whasoever. The defamatory lies about me that you have propagated on
the internet will continue to come up in a Google search for years if not
decades to come. You are no different than media scum who print defamatory
lies about someone on the front page of their rag and then retract those
lies at a later date in a footnote burried on page 58. Everyone will
remember the lies that they read on the front page and no one will ever
see, let alone read, the retraction. If and when your so-called public
apology comes up on a Google search at the top of the page, instead of your
defamatory lies, I will reconsider my assessment.

> That's a show of good faith.

No, it's just a pretention of good faith, the sencerity of which is both
questionable and impossible to assesss.

I already did, but since you deleted my post in your reply, here's my
proposal again. You leave the web page in place and restore its original
content (your part of the deal). In return (my part of the deal) neither
you nor any of the other like-minded scum that reside in this cesspool will

hear from me ever again.

You can bet with absolute certainty that I will.

There are no winners in a mud slinging contest. So, please excuse me while
I imagine the smirk on your ugly face, contemplate the obvious arrogance
and lack of sincerity in that inane comment, and reach for an air sickness
bag.

The crane has arrived, is in place, and is ready to lift me out of this
cesspool. The crane operator will push the lift button as soon as he
confirms on his laptop computer that the original content of the Porky Page
has been restored.

It's back up, completely unaltered.

And everything I wrote is just as valid today as it was then. The same
thing happened here with him in alt.guitar.bass. Fortunately, a.g.b. is
bigger than a.m.h-s, so the noise he generated didn't overwhelm the
group (a.m.h-s is practically dead these days). Plus I helped the
situation here by adding him as my first and only kill-file entry.

It's been a pleasure doing business with you.

I stopped having problems here.
You know, I could do like Gary and constantly change my alias, and keep

Perhaps I'll put up a "Jim Carr" page, or perhaps I'll decide you aren't
worth the effort. In my defense, most of what is on the Porky page was taken
out of context, and misrepresents what I actually said.
In the final analysis, you proved that you like me better than you do

I have my doubts about Gary actually staying away from the group, making
deals with the devil is always hazzardous.

Since you have found it so pleasurable, perhaps we should discuss the
possibility of some sort of partnership and/or joint venture. :-)

Initially I encountered a problem accessing the updated/restored page.
However, after rebooting my computer, it appears that all of the links in
the handfull of articles in the Google record that I have tried so far, do
indeed lead to the original Porky Page. So, based on that cursory
assessment, it appears that you have indeed honored your part of the deal.

As an example of my intent to honor my part of the deal, I am refraining
from responding to the comments that Mike Rieves and Jose de la Heras
posted yesterday in this thread.

Just to be absolutely certain that there is no misunderstanding about
either the purpose or intent of our agreement, take note that I don't want
to see the defamatory comments about me, that you have just removed, re-
appear on another page on your website....ever. CAPICHE?

Lastly, if, for whatever reason, you believe that I have failed to honor my
part of the deal, contact me (you have my address) before you jump to any
conclusions. Our agreement is most certainly going to piss off Mike
Rieves, and there is no telling what measures he might take to make it

No web page created, managed, written or hosted by me will have any
mention of you. All of our newsgroup posts are in Google Groups and some
websites mirror the newsgroups as well, but there's nothing we can do
about that.

The page in question is not on my site at all. Google, of course, will
have a cached snapshot of the page until it is reindexed. Give it a few
weeks to be updated.

In light of the fact that you have previously labeled me as "A person of
moderate to severe mental retardation having a mental age of from three to
seven years.." I find that remark utterly fascinating!

During my graduate school days (many years ago), we had a saying that goes

Since I don't want to be accused of violating our agreement, this will be

Unlike you, Gary, I have never stooped to impersonating someone else and I'm
not about to start now. The Porky page doesn't bother me, since it's
misrepresentational, taken out of context, and mostly untrue. I could give a
shit less, as long as you stay out of AGB. I rarely visit AMHS any more and
this is the only newsgroup that you know I read, so if you honor your
agreement with Jim, you won't be bothering me any more either. Now I don't
have to be bothered with killfiling any new alias you come up with, so
that's one less minor annoyance to deal with

> Fair enough.

Jim, I don't know where in hell you got the idea that I wanted you to
like me, all I wanted was for you to quit attacking almost every thing I
said, whether you knew anything about the subject or not. I don't like you,
I think you're a pompous, arrogant, know-it-all asshole. What you apparently
don't realize is that lots of folks here other than me feel the same about
you to at least some degree. And I'm not saying that to hurt you, I'm saying
it because it's true.
Your comment in the off-group message you sent me, "To be quite honest if
you dropped dead from a heart attack while reading this e-mail, I wouldn't
do much more than shrug." shows what kind of human being you really are. I
don't feel the same about you, if you dropped dead, I would consider it
regrettable, mostly because of your wife and kids.
At this point, I have to say that I'm beginning to see that Gary might not
have been so wrong about you, and I sincerely regret that a large part of
the animosity between Gary and me was the result of me trying to defend you.
Hopefully, someone will reply to this so that you will see it. If not, oh
well, I really don't give a fat rat's ass, because you really aren't worth
the effort. I do hope that you keep me in your killfile, because if you
start attacking me again, you might eventually come to think that Gary
wasn't such a bad guy after all.

Judging by what you quoted from Mike and the exchange I had with him via
private e-mail last night, I just knew he had to be talking about me.
Google Groups confirmed it. Sigh...

I put the guy in my kill-file and told him as much. I've told him before
not to e-mail me anymore. Yet the other night he e-mails me, then quotes
my response publicly. What's a boy to do? Hmm....

Mike, I apologize for everything I've ever said about you. You're a
wonderful human being, a delight to be around, and write the most
eloquent, informative and honest posts I've ever seen in a newsgroup.
I'm sorry I ever doubted your veracity. I know you're a humble guy, but
you really should give yourself credit for how many lives you've
enlightened on not only a technical level but on a personal level. You
are a true inspiration.

Alas, I am but ungrateful urchin who does not deserve the honor of your
attention. I completely understand your decision to never have anything
to do with me ever again.

You can only speak for yourself, Jim. And if you hadn't started harassing
me here and making out like I didn't know what I was talking about, the rest
of the folks here would not have gotten that impression about me.
Interestingly I've been posting to newsgroups for years, and the only
mewsgroups I've had problems in are the two that you were in. Also,
interestingly as well, I haven't had problems with the real experts here,
the ones that really know enough to know whether I know what I'm talking
about on technical subjects, just mostly you and Brian.

Just stop harrassing me, that's all I ever asked of you. If you had not put
the Porky page back up, I wouldn't have e-mailed you. Don't attack me and
think I'm not going to respond.

And you're a true asshole!
Yopu din't have to put the Porky page back up. You could have done what I
did, automatically killfile every new alias of his without even reading his
posts, that's what got him off me and back on you, but if you had done the
same, he would eventually have left us all alone. His gripe wasn't with the
other members of this group, just with me and you.
I don't give a fat rat's ass what you think about me, and I sure as hell
don't care whether you like me or not. You're a jerk, and you'll always be a
jerk. At this point, I'm not even sure that those posts were actually from
Gary and not you posting as Gary so you'd have an excuse to the Porky page
back up in an attempt to humiliate me. You certainly could have ignored Gary
like I've been doing and not have had to do what you did.
Actually, I don't really care about the Porky page, and until this shit
came up, it was rather peaceful here for me after you killfiled me. No one
was bugging me and questioning everything I posted, except for Brian, and
his posts don't bother me anymore. Regardless of whether it was actually
Gary, or you posting as Gary, your putting the Porky page back up shows what
kind of piss poor excuse for a human being you really are.

> Alas, I am but ungrateful urchin who does not deserve the honor of your

What goes around comes around Jim, just remember that. I don't have any "Jim
Carr" pages up anywhere, and I never did. It hasn't been me harassing you,
you were the one constantly attacking most everything I posted, both here
and at AMHS.
BTW, if it was really Gary posting, he'll be back sooner or later, he hates
both of us too much to stay away permanently, so all you've really done is
get me on your case as well. However, I don't hold grudges, so if you'll put
me back in your killfile and not mention me or the Porky page, or reply to
any of my posts again, as soon as I think it's permanent, I'll killfile you
again and leave you alone.

That's good, a real sign of growth on your part. My posts were never
intended to bother you, they were just meant to correct the many
incorrect statements you've made here. All in the interest of the

No, many of your "corrections" were merely highlighting your
misconceptions about things that you actually knew little about, like tubes,
speaker design, and now .410 shotguns. I'm not going to say either that I
was never wrong or that you were never right, I do occasionally make
mistakes and sometimes my memory plays tricks on me, but there have been
several occasions where you "corrected" me and were then corrected by people
who know the subject in question much better than you do. In those cases
those people were invariably in general agreement with me.

It's just frustrating how incredibly WRONG he can be, and not take
responsibility for it in any way. I think Brian has his number, and
that's really frustrating for guys like Mike. Frankly, Jim, I think
MOST people hanging out here have Mikey all figured out... I didn't
see ANYONE disagree with me when I made that statement earlier in this
thread, OTHER than Mike... who, by his actions here, doesn't count.

Frankly, if he just admitted that much of his "knowledge" is based on
opinion and quick Google searches, I wouldn't have as much of an issue
with him. It's his "Here's a FACT" followed by "What I meant was" and
"Oh, I should have mentioned" that drives me nuts.

Anyone who thinks Mike is a consistent and valuable resource on AGB,

I really, truly, deeply and sincerely hope that no one else is bothering
to read this thread, so it's a good thing that you haven't gotten any
response. People have got to have better things to do with their time.
If I weren't repeatedly accused of being wrong and having my
statements misrepresented, I'd never bother. Rieves treats this like
he's in it for the long haul, he wants to make a personal thing out of
this -- well, then, I'm in it for as long as he is. But I'm not
surprised no one else is reading!

We have an extra bedroom, actually... and had a renter in the studio

Sorry, Brian, but in reality everyone is quietly judging us. It's very
important for our reputations that we come across as better people than
Mike. I'd say this thread is more popular than American Idol. People
anxiously await each new post in hopes of learning more about us.

A day of reckoning is coming. You just wait. The regulars of a.g.b. will
announce their judgment of us. Those judged bad will have to leave.
Those judged good will have their every post taken as gospel. They will
be enshrined in the a.g.b. Hall of Fame. The losers will be in the Hall
of Shame, forever banished.

This newsgroup will never be the same once that day comes. There is
nothing more important you can do on any given day besides come across
as a better person than Mike.

As Albert Camus wrote, "Don't wait for the last judgment - it takes
place every day."

You (meaning not just you Jim, but everyone who gets wrapped up in these

Here's a little saying from the legal profession:

If the facts favor you, pound the facts. If the law favors you, pound
the law. If neither the facts nor the law favor you, pound the table!

This was told to me by an old-time lawyer, good friend and genuine
character named Jim Steimel, who also added at the end, "You gotta do
something, for Christ's sake!!"

This is provided free of cost to you, as a means to fulfill my pro bono

Jim,
In accordance with our deal, I am trying my best to refrain from posting to

So, to be clear. I don't mention you in any capacity (good, bad,
indifferent) and you stay away. Is that where we're at? If so, I can
live with that.

Gary is more than just "pretty smart", he's a genius, but he just cannot
let go if he perceives someone as insulting him, the fact that he may have
started the whole thing is irrelevent to him. His anger brings him down to
the troll level, which is unfortunate because intellegence-wise he is much
better than that.
I on the other hand am not a genius, but I do try to contribute to the
group, when I'm allowed. I don't claim to be infallible, I do make mistakes,
but I really hate it when someone with little knowledge of a subject
disputes me, because "everyone knows" that it isn't the way I said it was.
That happened on speaker design, on tubes, and on other subjects. At one
point, I couldn't even express an opinion on a subject without Jim Carr, or
Brian Running ridiculing me.

Ah, Usenet mediators. You people are twisted! :-)

It's hard to explain and even harder to justify, but there are certain
things guys like Mike do that just cry out for public censure. Part of
it is to alert the village, but another part is to try to humiliate them
back into line.

It's like the first window that gets broken in an abandoned building. If
you don't do something about it, then the rest will go soon.

Yes, I noticed that elsewhere. Very nice.

Which assumes everyone else is an idiot, except for the newbs. And
they'll catch on fast enough without your help. Maybe one or two posts
is justified, but some of the crap here goes on and on for days and tens
if not hundreds of posts. We get it, already! Let people make up their
own minds.

And that works, right? Look, you've been posting to usenet much longer
than I, but I must have missed something. I've never seen it happen.
With friendly cajoling, maybe. You wind up being part of the problem
(which really is decreased signal/noise ratio), not the solution.

Really bad analogy. As a friend of ours might say, "and if your
grandmother had wheels, she'd be a wagon."

It might not last long, particularly if the one-man crusade goes belly
up, as it's likely to.

To be honest, Rich, I don't mind it at all when the subject line clearly
indicates that it's off topic (like this one). If it's starts getting
too crazy inside of a "normal" topic, it should be changed to OT so
people can avoid it. It's only really annoying when an otherwise useful
thread goes crazy.

Actually, it works sometimes. Eventually. Sometimes for short periods.

It certainly would be a good tool for distracting jury members.

It's a joke, Rich. Maybe too much of an inside joke for everyone to
appreciate. Every lawyer, at one time or another, is in court for a
motion hearing or a trial, and is suddenly confronted with an
unexpected, adverse situation. It might be a citation to precedent that
you didn't find in your research and the other side did, or it might be
a bit of testimony that wasn't elicited in depositions beforehand and
comes as a complete surprise. Whatever it is, it's an uncomfortable
feeling to be in that spot. You can't just stand there and let your jaw
hit the floor, you've got to do something! It's funny, for those who
have been in that spot. And all litigators have been.

Since it isn't funny to you, I'll explain. Rarely are legal matters
decided in court on one big, obvious fact or one big, controlling
precedent. If they were, the matter would never have made it to court,
it would have been settled long beforehand. Disputes that make it into
lawsuits are always made up of many, complex facts, and there are
multiple versions of the facts according to each witness's perception
and bias. Legal precedent doesn't cover every possible case precisely,
there are always differences in facts between cases that make leave
precedent open to some interpretation. There are statutes, regulations,
attorney general's opinions, IRS case rulings, etc., etc., that
establish public policy and leave room for analysis and interpretation.
"Pound the table" means, figuratively, make an argument along one of
those other lines.

Every lawsuit results in a loser, and the loser goes away with a bitter
taste in his mouth and a low opinion of the legal system. Every loser
was "ripped off," was taken advantage of by lying, cheating lawyers and
judges, etc., etc. Yammer, yammer. "Lawyers ain't nuthin' but a pack
of thievin' liars, all they do is confuse the issues, mislead the jury,
pay off the judge," etc., etc. Okey dokey -- all the lawyers, the
judge, all the jurors, they were all in on the big scam to rip you off.
Sure thing.

If someone thinks that it's a lawyer's job to confuse the issues, what
he's really saying is, "I'm right, my version of the facts is right, and
that damn lawyer convinced the jury that I'm wrong. Since I know I'm
right, he must have cheated somehow." What's your first-hand
experience, Rich? Tell me how a lawyer "confused" the facts in your
lawsuit.

Sorry Brian, maybe my point would have been made clearer if I had
included a few selective smileys :-)

In other words, I was just ribbing. I have nothing personally against
lawyers, and the direct experiences I've had have been mainly very minor
matters. Sorry for the confusion!

Nope, just that one time, because it happens to be the truth. of course, you
won't see this, but that's okay, everyone else will.
