"Simple" adapter - help needed

Afternoon A.G.Bers

In a recent post i talked about wanting to run my Big Muff off of an
adapter rather than batteries. Finally decided to rig up a "simple"
adapter consisting of a 9V battery clip and a 2.5mm barrel plug
female.

Now i'm just trying to make sure i wire it properly. The way i
envision this going is this: I need to wire the battery clip in my
adaptor in the REVERSE of how its ment to go (i.e the red Positive
wire to the neutral center pin) because the positive side of this clip
will be attaching to the negitive part of the battery connector inside
of the pedal.

1) Is this correct?
2)Is my memory correct that Red will be positive and black neutral?

hopefully my description makes sense: if not i'll draw up a diagram
and post it somewhere

You can order a universal adapter that already has the 9v battery-style
plug, and a polarity switch so you don't need to figure out that part:

While thats all well and good, there are a couple of flaws with that

1) Cost (NZD$3.90 for my solution vs USD$9.99 (nearly NZD$15) +
shipping.
2) Time (I'm on the other side of the world: 6-8 weeks is WWWAAYYY too
long for something i can rig up myself in a couple of mins
3) I then would have to buy ANOTHER adaptor to plug that into my
powerstrip
AND
3A) I'm planning on using an onboard power supply on my pedal board

thanks for the suggestion but doesn't help me in my situation.

Your adapter should match the polarity of a 9V battery, since that's
what you're replacing. Take a look at a 9V battery I wish I had one
right now, I could tell you which is male and which is female, but I
don't -- and make sure your positive wire goes to the terminal that
corresponds with the positive terminal on the top of the battery -- you
follow what I mean?

Okay, now I've got my hands on a 9V cell. The positive is the male
terminal on the cell. So, no matter how your power supply supplies the
juice, your pedal is going to expect +9V at the female side of its
battery clip. Your power supply should indicate the polarity of its
output. If it's positive to the center pin, then you'll want to connect
the center pin to the male terminal on your adapter, so it eventually
arrives at the female terminal on the pedal's battery clip.

Cheers Brian. The whole idea ended up being moot when i went to make
the adaptor, as in the process of removing the batter i managed to rip
the entire battery clip off its wires - so now the connecter is
soldered directly to the pedal.

Oh well...it works...with a little hum

Hopefully once i get the isolated power supply that should disappear.
