65 bucks! Yeah. $65.00 USD.
Off Ebay, and from a music store. They threw it up on auction. It
was really dusty, and some nimrod decided to burn a candle on the top
and dripped wax all down the front. and the auction was "Pick up only"
They started the bid at 50.00 and I thought. though they said it all
worked. the cabinet would be worth that much. So I bid $150.00 on
it.
Huh?
I got it for $57.00 only one other bidder on it with a 6 day auction.
OK, so It's in Chicago, and a friend of mine lived about 12 mi. from
the place and I asked him if he could go get it and hold it for me
until I came up to the bass jam.

He said he would. and because it came from a store, he had to pay Cook
County sales tax on it, so it came out to about $65.00
But actually I DID give more for it than the $65. for my buddy's time
and effort at retrieving it. I gave him a bill for it, which he
promptly refused but that's too bad. he has kids to feed also.
Yeah, I had to drive almost 300 mi to get it, but to retrieve the head
was icing on the cake. It was well worth attending.
Loads of beautiful wood and steel. I don't think there's a picture of
my Modulus in there though.
There's a pic of the cab in page 4 or 5 I think and my pal brought his
little Ashdown head and i was really impressed how it pumped that
cabinet!
It's amazing the power they make into small packaged now days.I mean
the thing wasn't much bigger than a cigar box! They sure beat
carrying around huge heads that weigh like a truck battery.
I'll probably be perusing an Ashdown or Markbass head in the near
future.

Well, I took it and hooked it up to an SWR 4004 tonight and actually I
was bit dissapointed in the tone. It's "OK" but not as great as I had
expected it to be, then i got to thinking.
So I drug out a Peavey 1x15 BW cab and hooked it into "Speaker # 2"

Now it's sounding a lot better, but still a bit weak in the pants.
the 8x10 is rated for 800w and the 1x15 is 300w 4 ohm. So next I'll
try the Ampeg 1000w head and see if I can' blow something up.
actually, I won't be hitting it with volcano volume so it shouldn't be
obnoxious.
Oh yeah. i was testing it with a '83 BC RICH Mockingbird NJ with
passive DiMarzios. I might try the Modulus with active Barts, and do a
comparison. I've noticed that different bass's sound better on
different rigs so I still think that the 8x10 and the 1x15 will work
well, but need to do some head and bass swapping so I'll know what
combination works the best.

Wow - that's one heck of a cabinet.
I'm surprised to hear you had to hook up a 15" cab as well, I thought
you would have blown everyone out of the door when you plucked the low
E....
It looks fantastic though - what weight is it? All you need now is a
couple of strong roadies and you are set to roll - otherwise see if
you can get a residency somewhere - no one will run off with your
cabinet.
Anyway I'm pleased you got it for a bargain price.

thanks. It weights in at over 150 lb. I beleive, but it's set on tilt
back rollers with a tow handle located on the back top, so you can
drag it around. lifting it up on stage will take more than one person,
though.
I hooked it up in my garage and test drove it with the 4004 head, and
maybe my expectations were higher that what was necessary, then I
hooked up the 1x15 and thought it did a better job of power delivery.
OK so the next evening when I got home, my next door neighbor came
over and said that the same night, he and his wife wer watching TV,
and heard this rumbling from somewhere. He looked though he thought it
was the local idiots with their boom box trucks running up and nown
the street, then he looked out the back door and saw me in my garage
with the car door down rockin' around. He said he had no problem
hearing me come though their walls 60 feet away.
I think it'sll do better than I thought.

Stomp, this cab is really working well. It's heavy, but very portable.
with the tilt-back handle and caster wheels. And responds well. I've
got it hooked with a SWR 4004 at the present, and I'm really impressed
with the overall response compared to a 2x15 cab. It's working good,
and I'm pleased w/it.

Don't know what bass I'll use, but tonight it, Swr4004, and 1x15 is
going to get a bit of a workout.

Seems similar to the typical upright piano deal:
"Get it outa heah an itz yerz" ... usually free or
sometimes $50 or $100 ... whatever.
Acoarst, with a piano you typically only move it
once. With a gig cab ... well ... time to re-up at
the gym ? Maybe you should open a club and
give it a non-mobile home ?

Youu know, Golem. That reminds me. I have a Peavey Combo 300, that
seems to weigh about half a ton. Sure it's on castors, but is heavier
than a dead Buick if you have to pick it up.
A friend of mine made a neat comment that ... "on a casket it has
handles for 6 and needs to be carried once. This 300 weighs as much as
a casket and they give you one handle and expect you to carry every
time!"
