I got sort of a flame from diehard tube freaks in the news group. I checked
out Harmony Central under guitar, amp, reviews. Spent about 6 hours at
Musicians Friend going between the flextone , flextone duo, the big Art 825 (
on sale @ $699 closeout was $1000 (list about $1300) and the still not so small
Art 830 (also on closeout @$599 from about $900) They did not have a tech21 in
stock. though I have played through one about a week ago. I am new to electric
guitar I have been playing acoustic for about 6 years so I am in a learning
curve. I had several of the salesmen play through the amps as well the
Flextone duo was easier to initially operate and easy to dial up an amp model
a sweet sounding unit for shure. the Arts 830 and the larger 825 both have
more spaciousness in the stereo effects and can stay much clearer and
articulate at extreme distortions I didn't like the size of the 70lbs 825 but
the 2X12' celestons in an enclose back cabinet (same amp and pre amp as the
smaller 830) has its merits in the sound stage. all unit have a headphone
jack. The Arts operate independant of the 2 (R and L)amp outputs., Also the
Arts can be controlled by a number of foot controllers ( MIDI type). The
flextone foot is propriatary and cost a couple of hundred. I haven't as yet
made a clear winner I like to Stereo effects which the Tech 21 Isn't . The rush
for me is I have a 20% discount coupon good through tomarrow which makes the
Art 830 $480. The Flextone Duo and the Art 825 $560 plus WA state sales tax (
the Scottish bargain hunter likes the Art's deep discount) but the Flextone is
getting such good raves and reviews and is easier to operate and is the
smallest of the three amps and the warmest sounding. Warmer than the tech21 too
The ART and the Big ART kicked butt in a lot of areas. IRead that they use a 7
or 9 ply cabinet material which is a plus on material strengh As I Iwas leaving
I found out that the ARTs have a cabinet modeling selector on the back to
emulate closed 4X12 or a open 2X12 Ididn't get to hear it

Help, Got any opinions please share ASAP my discount is only good through
tomarrow
Thanks Kim
