Barge, tug sink in Lake Huron - oil spill

The U.S. Coast Guard is on the scene of a sinking dredging barge and
tugboat two miles out on Lake Huron in an area near Lakeport.
According to Coast Guard's reports, there are no injuries or deaths in
the double sinking, which occurred at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday near
Port Huron.
"It involves one dredging barge and one tugboat," Petty Office Nick
Aquisto said at 9 a.m. "The tug has sunk, and the tender is completely
submerged except for part of its rigging, which is perhaps 25 to 30
feet out of the water."
Petty Officer Lauren Laughlin of the Coast Guard station in Cleveland
told the Associated Press the commercial barge was being pushed by the
tugboat when it went down in stormy waters about five nautical miles
northwest of the entrance to the St. Clair River. The tugboat then
flipped over.
According to the Port Huron Times Herald, the owner of the dredge,
which might have been carrying as much as 1,500 gallons of diesel
fuel, is MCM Marine Inc. Sault Ste. Marie. It has hired Michigan
Pollution Control to develop a response plan.
According to Aquisto, a Coast Guard response team on site will also
determine how to contain/recover the fuel, as well as salvage the two
vessels.

Doesn't the US coast guard have a station on the north end of Belle Isle

(which would be a hell of a lot closer to the site than the Cleveland
station).
