Last night (3-24-09) the History Channel ran a show about the formation of
the Great Lakes in their "How the Earth Was Made" series.

I'm not a geologist but I thought it was an excellent show, discussing how
the enormous salt deposits came to be under Huron and Michigan, why Superior
and Ontario are much different than the other three, and why the water level
of the lakes seems to be lowering. An hour's worth of cool geology!

So watch when it comes to reruns!

And here's a trivia question: During a segment on Lake Superior an aerial
shot of some shore line included a lighthouse. Watch closely and answer the
question to win first prize: Bragging rights for 30 days! So what was the
light?

Other episodes in the series, one about New York are just as good - the
series promises to be as interesting as Discovery's Planet Earth!

I thought it was a pretty good show by the time it was over. I didn't
like the drama at first, implying that the formation of the lakes was a
super mystery. But they resolved it, and presented folks who walked
through the origin of the lakes (not the same for all of the lakes, of
course).
