Just wondering how the fall colors are progressing in the GL area? I
was in the Cheboygan, MI area about 2 weeks ago. Some individual
maple leaves had started to turn, but nothing major. There is area
about 6 miles south of Cheboygan, along US 23 that traditionally
"lights up" before the rest of the area - The birches and poplars
showed signs of lightening up and fading to yellow, but by the time I
left on the 23rd, they still hadn't popped. I guess my visit was a
couple of weeks early.

Over near Ironwood, MI. Somewhere near 5% color change in the Gogebic
Range along HWY 2. Less than 3% south to Green Bay and most of those
are apparently stressed individuals, not true area change. A good
couple of weeks near Ironwood to decent color, and probably close to 4
weeks before the Green Bay area is in full color.

We were up at Porcupine Mountains and in the Keweenaw two weeks ago.
The trees were just beginning to change there at that time. Not much
fall color yet. Beautiful greens, though!

I talked to a couple of people today - Dad in Presque Isle County and
a buddy in Cheboygan county. Both said the color was very spotty. Dad
has a 45 ft Maple in his yard that is 100% BRIGHT red, but the rest of
the trees around him aren't showing anything yet - except for 1 white
birch that has already dropped most of its leaves. In south-central
Cheboygan county, the story is pretty much the same - buddy is
figuring another 7-10 days until Peak.

We ran into that in the UP - the occasional tree that had fully changed.
Not too many, though.
