Is there any way to superimpose an image onto another one so it looks as
though it's in the background...

e.g A picture of a seascape at sunset and in the sky you see the faint
picture of a lion....

any help would be appreciated.

Fred,

Layer of lion over layer of sunset.... lower opacity of lion layer until it
is where you want it...(or you can play with layer modes while on the lion
layer for some interesting effects..)

Yes using photoshop put the background on another layer, which needs to
be below your main layer in the dialogue box, you can adjust opacity and
generally modify things. The only way is to try it.
