I have a simple application where I have two digital images in JPEG
format. I open
both files inside Photoshop 4.0 and I create a new layer in one of the
files with 50%
opacity. So now one image has the original image labeled as background
and the new
layer. I cut a region from the other original and move it into the new
layer that has 50%
opacity. When I do this the effect I'm looking for is there, namely the
two images that
when overlapped you can see features in both images, but there are
vertical lines that
seem to be artifacts. As I perform pixel-wide shifts in the horizontal
direction the vertical
lines reach a maximum thickness (say 4 pixels) and the shrink until they
are gone. As I
continue to shift the new layer the arifacts will show up again. The
real problem comes
after a number of shifts, where I get the following error message:

PHOTOSHP caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 0137:bff78053.

then the application dies. This error is repeatable. I am running
Photoshop 4 on an
HP Kayak, Pentium II, 266 MHz, 64 MB RAM, Matrox Millenium II (AGP),
Win95.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike Bruce

Have you upgraded to PhotoSHop 4.01 yet. The download is available on
the Adobe website. If this does not cure the "problem" help may not be
forthcoming since PShop 5 was recently released.

And I bet you didn't get the 4.0.1 upgrade or the 4.0.4 MMX plug-ins from
Adobe's web site........

Cowboy, the bandwidth is bad enough as it is...
It only takes a second to delete the unnecessary original post..

Mike,
I just tried what you described without difficulty. I suggest you verify
that you have the MMX update for PS4 from Adobe's web site. Make sure
you have he latest video driver from Matrox's web site. Frankly what you
describe sounds like a video driver problem to me. Hope this helps. Good
luck.
