Artist/Paint Plugin Question

I've tried to use the built in plugins for Adobe CS Photoshop 8.0 that
attempt to take a picture and make it look like a painting either by brush,
palette knife, etc. I'm not to happy with the results but wanted to know if
anyone had any suggestions on 3rd party plugins that are known for doing
this well? Thanks in advance.

Never use a shifting spanner when a flat spanner or socket is
available. Use the tools made for it. Photoshop is a
photo-editing program. Use Corel Painter for painting.

These (3) paintings were done in CS2. It's frustrating because
that is not what I wanted. It cost me a few books on CS2
and hours of experimenting to learn that is not
what PS are made for. I bought Painter IX and my
first tutorial book on it is on the way via Amazone.

I'll post something more artistic next time:-)))

Corel has a less expensive version of Painter out, Painter Essentials,
designed specifically to turn photos into paintings. It's great fun and easy
to learn.

Thanks for pointing this out, Laura. Funny fact that we stumble over
tutorials for Photoshop (even for CS2 weeks only after it was
launched) but not for painting programs.

When paging a book a few days ago at Exclusive Books,
I have seen (I think it was Russel Brown) also pointing out that
Photoshop paintings does not really look like paintings, while
the Painter results are really professionall.
