Hey there friends!
I invite you to check out my new tutorial, A Watercolor from a Photo, on
making a pen-and-ink over watercolor effect from a photo. The result is
similar to that of the "Really Useful Page" tutorial to which i've been
sending people, but this one is, imho, an improvement, in that it uses
Grasshopper's suggestions, a couple of my own discoveries, and it is cleaner.
Please let me know what you think, if you get a moment. I'd love a real raking
too.. i mean let me know every nitpicky thing that you think would make this a
better tutorial. I also did an almost total rewrite of my Antique Gold
tutorial so take a look at that one too, while you are on my site.

Janee, you've outdone yourself, this is a marvellous tutorial. When
the pen and ink suddenly appears, the exclamation you give that
sentence is not misplaced, it's *absolutely* a-s-t-o-n-i-s-h-i-n-g!
Also the usual easy talkative style you've developed is friendly and
makes me laugh whilst I'm reading it.

I've spent an hour or two giving a holiday photo of a sunny Barcelona
courtyard with a pool in it the treatment. I'll upload and link to the
photo I started with and what I ended up with when I get a minute
(it's my bedtime now!)

You thought you'd got away with no nit picks .... didn't you?! ;-)

I tried *very* hard to find something and the only thing I could come
up with is that the last bit of item 8 doesn't read quite right.
" ... use High quality but Normal mode." I think it either needs a
comma after the word "quality" or "but" should be changed to "and".
That's it, other than that, I think it's perfick!

YAY! I can't wait to see what you did with it! I'm happy that you like this
one so much. I was really pleased with it too. Some of the others gave me some
critiques which i implemented and so that is why there isn't so much left to
pick on. :P I will fix that in #8.

I'm happy too that my bit of humour comes through in my writing. I don't try
to be funny.. i just spend much of my day creating laugh lines in my face, so
i guess that comes out. <g> Thanks for the strokes!

Here's what I did with it
http://www.mygrafix.co.uk/misc/watercolour.htm

I had quite alot of garbage, ooops, I mean, people to rubber stamp out
of the way :-) I'm really pleased with the way the stone arches came
out. Thanks again for the tutorial - great stuff!

I do apologise, that's a bit naughty of me, I should've left the URL
when I snipped Janee's posting in case anyone missed the original,
hope you've found it now. You've probably picked it up from Janee's
posting; just in case it's here:

It is alway education to read your posts and look at your site. Thanks for
the watercolor - sketch tutorial.

I haven't tried it although I printed it out and will work on it tomorrow.

In the meantime, my wife and I went to a garden show this afternoon and,
after looking at the similar tutorial link via your site, came up with a
sketch/watercolor on one of the displays seen this pm. I have no idea how
I got from the photo to the "drawing" although it involved "finding edge",
"inverse", several layers and blendings, and changes in hues. I sort of
like the result and wish I had noted the steps.

Again, thanks for sharing your skills and the results of your efforts with
this newsgroup.

Wow! Great job on that! I agree with you that that is a very nice look.
Actually, I'm going to write up a tutorial on that effect. Look for it. I got
the idea from a site that someone emailed me at
http://www.paulbrent.com/shop/beach2.html
As soon as i work it up exactly as i want it, i'll get it on the air. Watch
for it if you are interested.

See.. now this is what is cool about my life. How sweet it is to have someone
leave my site thinking about things that THEY can do.. and then they do it..
and feel wonderful about what they did. To me this is far cooler than if they
left my site just thinking how cool it is what *Janee* did! :)
Always looking for a reason to smile, Janee
