Anchor points do not stay visible

Hi

I'm having a problem with anchor points in one document. In all my other documents, if I click on an path with the Direct Selection Tool, the anchor points and the control lines (is that the correct name?) become visible and I can alter the shape as needed. However, there is this one document in which if I click the path or an anchor point with the Direct Selection Tool, the anchor points and control lines do not show. They show if I click and drag the anchor point, but I cannot change the control lines because if I release the mouse button, the anchor points and control lines disappear. I suspect that I accidentally changed some setting through a keyboard short cut. What setting would cause this behavior? I'm using Illustrator from CS 3 (13.0.2) on an Intel Mac (running OS X 10.5.8).

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me

This is a real long shot but have you tried changing the color of the
layer? Double click on the layer you're working on and you can change
the color of the anchor points and lines.

Hope that works!

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your response. It was not the color of the layer. After talking with a few people one of them told me to check "Hide/View Edges" under the View menu. It turns out that I had accidentally set "Hide Edges" when I pressed command-H trying to hide Illustrator (For many applications command-H means "Hide Application" in Mac OS X).

Thank you again for your response.
