Relevance is that White is not a colour, but still a background.
Transparency might be better. But I do understand you want a background.

Good choice.Lots of things look jagged on screen but come out perfect in
print. As long as the DPI/PPI is OK.

Ahhhh has more to do with typo design. Ariel is just not done imho;)
If you use Helvetica those Windows people will not see the difference,
but it is sooo much better.
