GRNC Alert 04-15-08:
Wesley Chapel Delays Gun Vote
Apparently the shining light of truth has sent the roaches running
for cover again. The town council of Wesley Chapel in Union County
decided last night to put off discussion of the anti-gun ordinance
under consideration until next month. Could it be that they are hoping
you will be paying less attention then? Will you be?
Recapping the story:
Michael Land has operated a private shooting range on his 7 acre
property since 1991. WSOC TV's website states that "North Carolina law
protects Land's firing range under the Sport Shooting Range Protection
Act of 1997." Of course - like in the East Wake case above - a little
thing like the law never stops determined anti-gunners from violating
your rights. A special meeting will be held Monday, April 14, to
discuss a proposed ordinance which would restrict the discharge of
firearms within 450ft of any dwelling, building, or field containing
livestock; effectively preventing the discharge of any firearm in most
areas of Wesley Chapel.
WSOC notes: "Land said he mostly shoots on the weekends and never
during school hours or early in the morning. He also said he spent
$15,000 upgrading the range by building a huge burm made of steel and
wet sand. It measures about 20 feet tall and 60 feet wide at the base.
He shoots directly into the burm to keep rounds from going anywhere
else."
The true agenda of local anti-gun critics is revealed in this
statement of a neighbor: "it's not something that when you come and
buy a house in this particular neighborhood that you want to have your
kids get accustomed to. You know, hearing gunshots."
IMMEDIATE ACTION
* Contact the members of the Wesley Chapel Town Council and deliver
the following message:
Dear Councilmember:
I understand that the Wesley Chapel Town Council has postponed
consideration of the ordinance designed to destroy legally protected
shooting ranges in your community until a later date. I hope this is
with the intent of quietly killing any notion of bringing this to
pass.
As noted before this is a gross contradiction to the protections
afforded to these ranges by the Sport Shooting Range Protection Act of
1997 and cannot be allowed.
I will continue to monitor the progress of this matter with the
expectation that you will use all of your power to dispense with this
ill founded idea.
Sincerely,
A concerned citizen
