excuse me

but if I choose to swear
I will
this might be a nice little moral lesson for the kiddies...
but if the adults would like to swear...
we will.

Normally, I would not even bother to answer this, as I suspect that
you are a troll of some sort.. however, I'm going to give you the benefit
of the doubt (for now), and treat you as at least a semi-intelligent being
(for now)..
Language is a method of communicating thoughts to another. Correct?
Most (if not all) So-called-obscene words have plenty of "non-obscene"
synonyms, but all of these synonyms, obscene or no, convey the same
concept.
My point is that words themselves are meaningless. It is the intention
behind them that gives them any degree of obscenity. Therefore, you should
let others communicate with whatever word-choice they want to, as one
can offend just as easily with 'non-obscene' words, since no word, by
itself, is truly obscene. They are all tools, which can be used for
purposes of communication.
In conclusion:
Your plea to 'clean things up' is pretty fucking lame.

Actually...
Grotesque 1. odd or unnatural in shape, appearance, or character;
fantastically ugly or absurd; bizarre. 2. fantastic in the shaping and
combination of forms, as in decorative work combining incongruous human and
animal figures with scrolls, foliage, etc.
Sounds intesting to me. Where in there does it say inherently wrong

I would highly reccomend _The Power of Myth_,
an interview of Joseph Campbell by Bill Moyer, for anyone who is
interested in Campbell's interpetation on the need for heroes & myth in
human history.
A particularly interesting section of the interview is Campbell's
examination of the symbolism on the american dollar bill.

Some would say that Dali, Escher and Giger are surrealist artists.
But, forgetting that you said that taboos are common to every society. If
that is true, how could surrealism ever become popular?
>Horror movies are mere pasteboard decoration too. Notice how they
ususally *cut out* the bad scenes.
When it plays on network tv. When it's played in its full R or NC-17
rating then it shows everything. And these are the versions that are
popular. We as a culture seem to enjoy the unusual and the macabre
>Ah, the old liberal bleeding heart approach.
Have you ever had an original thought? Now who is using language to
destroy meaning?
>That is the most superifical definition of. Taboo my eyes have ever
beheld. Taboos are common to EVERY society.
Taboo - 1. proscribed by society as improper and unacceptable. 2. (among
the Polynesian and other peoples of the South Pacific) seperated or set
apart as sacred or profane.
Nothing in there states that taboos are common to every society. And
in some cultures taboo could either be the sacred or the profane. Hardly
seems to the universal constant you are looking for.
>For example, I noticed you evoked a TABOO against Insulting you, which I
clearly did, but you want to stand by THAT TABOO, don't you.
Absolutely not. There is no taboo against insulting anyone, even me.
However, what I was doing was pointing out the hypocrisy of you posting
that we should watch our language and be civil when it is clear that you
yourself refuse to do so.
>What exactly is the range *permitted* in one's variety of opinions?
Any. I really don't care what you believe. I'm not trying to change
your mind or think that we are wonderful. However, if you insist on
spewing idiocy than I am going to have some fun with your posts.
>For example if I hold that Edvamp is a shithead, well is that an
"interesting opinion"?
Interesting is up to the reader. Your opinions are interesting to me
because they make it easy to make a fool out of you in public.
>Or if I think Ed copulates with his mother whether true or not, is that
an "interesting opinion"?
Not necessarily. But it is not taboo. All it is doing is showing
that you have a strange obsession with my sexual habits.
>Opinions always, always lead to judgments of character just as you have
demonstrated in your reactions to me.
Judgements of character vary in degree and meaning. Simple
disagreements usually lead to the judgement of 'this person doesn't like
the same things I do'. That is a judgement but it is emotionally neutral,
it doesn't affect my feelings about a person. My reactions to you is not
because you disagree with me about goth music and mental illness. I
reacted because you were really only interested in insulting people and
their likes. It is not your opinions that I reacted to, it was your tone.
>my point: the Gothic is mostly "decorative", therefore shallow.
How do you get from one point to the next? Why is the decorative
necessarily shallow?
>that Gothic means all dressed up with no where to go and conscious of
that fact.
If we are conscious of the fact, then we got the joke. Shallowness
implies that the person would take it seriously and miss the joke.
>The party is over. The lights have come on.
Now your singing Queen songs to us? Will your assaults never stop?
>Unnatural, odd, fantastic....all constrained by the TABOO.
You are making huge leaps here. None of these things imply that they
are forbiddon by society. A taboo is a social construct, not a universal
fact. A person can ignore taboo and enjoy something that others don't.
