This is actually for my mom...

A bit of history- I am the proud daughter of a mom who makes Corn
Shuck Dolls. Yes, very cute. I make them too, actually. Christmas
ornaments and gifts for seasonal holidays, that sort of thing. Even
sell them in a shop...

It turns out that my mother had never thought of using gligtter
nailpolish on the corn shucks before- I have been for making little
glittery corn shuck fearie wings...

She loves the idea! I just sent her a whole piound of different
glitters and nailpolishes she can't get in rural Kentucky. She
teaches at elderhostiles and it is a very easy fun way for them to
decorate their dolls. Yes very cute, but in a good way, I think.

The point of all of this is that she goes through the glitter
nailpolish like crazy!
So- I wonder if nail polish thinner exists?
And even better- if you can buy nailpolish- clear- in bigger
containers?

Any ideas?

My liocal Sally's sells these HUGE things of clear nailpolish, it's a round
container, probably about three inches in diameter. I suspect that one
could buy a few of those and dump in different colours of glitter...I think
they run between $5-10 each, I know it's under $10, but I can't for the ilfe
of me think of a specific cost.

Yes, indeed it does.. but from what i've seem, mostly in little
bitty bottles for big bucks. :P

Certainly. My local Sally's caters partially to manicurists,
and they sell clear topcoats in -large- bottles.. one speaks of 2, 6, 8,
up to 16 ounces of polish in a fishbowl-like, bloated nailpolish bottle,
with brush to match. I don't remember how much they cost, but they were
fairly inexpensive. If they don't sell these silly things near you, i'd
be happy to go pick up a few.

Just a quick note: be careful dumping glitter into clear nailpolish, as
some types sink.

Yosa-

Couldn't she use some of the new gel acrylic paints? They come
in various sheer and opaque irridescents, and I think glitter
too. I'm planning to get some sheer irridescent pink & lavender
for the wings of the faeries I'll be stenciling onto the walls
of my daughter's bedroom this summer. I'm pretty sure I saw them
in the Pearl Paint art supply catalog.

You can get a free catalog here: http://www.pearlpaint.com/

There are also other discount arts & crafts suppliers with
websites:

http://www.ahandyguide.com/cat1/a/a150.htm

And these are some of the other catalogs I have:

-ASW (Art Supply Warehouse) (800) 995-6778 Up to 75% off
suggested retail on art
supplies of all kinds.

-Flax Art & Design (800) 547-7778 Nifty stuff for artsy types.
Some supplies.

-The Jerry’s Catalog (800) U-ARTIST The encyclopedia of artists’
materials.

I use Aquarelle non-toxic watercolor crayons to do face-painting
at my kids' school, and it's cheaper to get them from catalogs
than in local stores.

Oh, any you can thin acrylic fabric paints (get 'em at Wal-Mart)
with water, and they're permanent when they dry. We used glitter
& pearl & metallic fabric paint to decorate candles at Christmas
time for my son's kindergarden class to bring home as gifts for
their parents. They came out really pretty.

<snip>

I got a 4 oz bottle at Sally Beauty Supply for $2.99. I think
that's enough to last me the rest of my life :)
