Yes, the spammers have driven most of the readers away from the
group. I still check once a week and rarely found an on-topic post
anymore.

No, it was not always this way. This used to be a very active group
of people discussing the group's topic and related things. Now,
everyone has drifted away. The noise drowned out the signal.
