I just ran across a site with "Bwild permanent hair color", but a quick
search didn't turn up any previous posts about the brand. I was curious
if anyone had experience with it since the dark plum at least sounds
like it might be nice. However, it's hard to get a good idea from the
site. It's at
http://www.villagestreetwear.com/bwilperhairc.html

They've also got a fire red and a burgundy which I'm sure would be of
interest to others here if it's any good.

Found this on google, but I'm not sure if it's the same exact dye:

I haven't used it myself, though I did just see it at a local Sally's. I
like the plum too and am also curious to hear any comments.

They're carrying it at Hot Topic now, from the box it sounds like
traditional permanent dye in slightly non-traditional colors. I was
tempted, but I'd rather not turn my hair permanently funny colors till after
I have a job, interviewers tend to dislike people with blue or purple or
un-naturaly colored hair...

That's because the brand is Jerome Russell. As to whether it's any good -
no. It used to be really good, then they went & changed the packaging,
shrank the bottles, & evidently changed the formula as well as it suddenly
turned very crap (didn't leave any colour on hair or anything). Of course,
this is in the UK, they might have left it alone elsewhere.

Us UK folks are mostly a tad suspicious after the small bottles, high
prices, & generally crappy results we have had with the Jerome Russell
B-Funky temporary dyes.

My experience with the plum temporary colour was that it stained
everything *but* my hair.

Not as good as La Riche Directions, more expensive for less product. :P

Jerome Russell *bleach kits* however, are fantastic, & one of the few
products on the market which get my hair close to ivory, instead of
ginger!

I think they've changed the bleach formula too though. Usually I can get it
on my skin with no problems, but I accidentally got some on my arm last time
I used it and it burned like hell!
Good stuff though

Yikes! Careful there!

I once saw a Jerome Russell 'after bleach' treatment called 'Scalp
Soother' or something. Wonder if they still sell it?

Yes, it is strong stuff. I always use their milder bleach, but then. my
hair is quite light already.

Hmm, I've never heard of this particular one before. I mean, I've used
other Jerome Russell dyes but those weren't powder ones. FYI, the
UK-sold tubes are absolute rubbish as everyone else has been saying!
The US Punky Colors were slightly better although I still prefer
Special Effects and Manic Panic - they really bleed badly, dye
everything that comes into contact with them and fade very fast too.

From my experience of powder-based, no-peroxide dyes - they work well
but I really wouldn't like to say the same of this one given JR's
track record!

However, if anyone's brave enough to give it a whirl I'm sure I'm not
the only person who'd be interested in the results :)

The B-Wild US dye is crap as well... A friend used the purple about a month
ago, and ended up with random bleached patches, and only a hint of purple in a
few spots on her head. She mixed it properly and followed the directions
extremely closely, and still had shoddy results. I'd stick with SFX or Manic
Panic...

But I want permanent purple, or at least something that lasts a good
deal longer than SFX or Manic Panic. ::stomp:: ::pout::

I'm thinking of trying Second Nature radiant red violet next, but I've
been wishing for something more extreme and a little more bluish. I'll
be trying that trick of putting Manic Panic in my conditioner to see if
that helps keep it bright. However, I've got a sinking feeling that I'm
going to make a hell of a mess of my bathroom and hands doing that.
Um... can anyone suggest what ratio I should use?

Why don't you try one of the Manic Panic tinted Colorize shampoos? I
tried the red/pink one and there was a definite colour deposit. The
only problem was it was a little too moisturising for my greasy hair
but my mum tried some and she found it was great for her dry hair. She
used it over the top of dyed brownish black hair and it made it go a
fantastic plummy colour after only one wash! I also saw this colour
conditioner in Sallys the other day. IIRC it was a Clairol one but
again, mum tried it and said the colour deposit was great and they do
a purpley colour too.

TBH I found the Special Effects Deep Purple to be pretty long lasting!
(please Google for my desperate plea to remove it a few years back!)
There's also a powder dye available from Daniel Field salons in the UK
(they do overseas mail order too). It's a deep purple colour and if
you put it on dry hair, it's permant. IIRC the shade is no 36 but I
can check this. I've got some ready to use for Whitby Gothic Weekend
so I'll post the results...

I've seen another one as well as that, & it was in a purple. Can't remember the
brand name, only that it was about £8-ish. I plan on going in in the next few
days so I'll have a look.

You lucky cow! It ran out almost instantly with me - I was paranoid about going
out in the rain, it was so bad. Don't know if Dyff had any luck - IIRC it was her
who bought the other bottle off me. But it was suck a gorgeous colour. I needed a
big stick to beat of the people telling me how cool my hair was & asking where I
got the dye ;-).

Where can I find my nearest Daniel Field salon!? Please!!! Is it actually a chain
of salons, or just a network of affiliates? I take it you can buy the dye & use
it yourself?

Since I posted this I've been unundated with requests about Daniel
Field so I'm posting this up here to satisfy everyone!

You can find all the info here: www.danielfield.com

The actual powder dye I'm referring to is Water Colour - they mention
some of the "normal" colours that are available in Sainsburys but not
the more interesting ones. You can buy the dye either from one of the
salons (they're listed on the website - IIRC they're mainly in the
South East of England) or via mail order. They cost £7.50 per vial
which is good for shoulder-length hair and they do ship overseas.
You'll need to ask them for a plastic mixing bottle too.

Now, the purple I was referring to is actually shade 3.6 - I haven't
tried it yet so I can't vouch how it'll turn out but I was going to
put it over faded black to make it darker. It's *not* a vibrant shade
but more of a plummy purple and you use it on dry hair to make it near
permanent. I've been using their no 1 (black) for ages and decided to
grow it out about two years ago only to re-dye it again last month.

FYI Daniel Field hair products are all cruelty free and made from
natural ingredients.

HTH

Natasha, who should get shares in Daniel Field hair products!

Aren't you supposed to be able to mix the dyes? What if you mixed it with their white
toner? I'm pretty sure that's supposed to make a colour paler. Hmm. I might try
that...

It's not so much the darkness of Deep Purple I had a problem with,
it's the shade itself. It's quite a cold purple and I felt it wasn't
flattering...on the other hand I have no idea what it would look like
if it were mixed with toner.

Perhaps if you mixed it with a bit of Pimpin Purple? I've had good
results mixing two shades of SFX for a warmer or cooler look in the
reds and purples. For what its worth, Deep Purple lasts forever on me
too and turns a bit reddish after it's been in for about 6 months. (I
can't even dye black over it without the purple showing through a bit
even after.) So it should be able to mix successfully with Pimpin
Purple without an ugly murky shade developing.
