My roommate recently dyed his hair lagoon blue from Punky color. I, as well
as MOST of my friends have not had ANY success in keeping the punky color or
manic panic for that matter in our hair. Does anyone have any ideas
besides, don't ever wash your hair, to keep Punky OR Manic Panic color in
your hair a little longer than 3 days. BTW, never had problems with SFX,
but you all know that.... :>

SFX is really the best when it comes to those colors! Manic or Punky fade
quickly!

No that won't help because (again) these type of colors cannot and will not go
in to the cuticle they simply are a stain to the outside layer of the hair
shaft!

Yes truly! Leave it on for hours! (at least an hour) it will last two weeks

Some thoughts about punky color.

Never. EVER store your punky color GEL on the top shelf. Never EVER let it
FALL. Because although the botle is plastic, it SHATTERS. Yep. Blood red.
Wooah! It fell. It SHATTERED. ALL OVER THE FLOOR, WALLS, CARPET,
and let me tell ya. It sure LASTS on walls-

This was the catalyst for my painting my bathroom. With like 9 zillion coats
trying to cover the blood (red).

It was a PLASTIC bottle! WHY did it SHATTER! If I say ONE THING in defense of
Manic Panic, its this; the bottles dont shatter.

I don't think I've heard of this brand, is it in the U.K. only?

Be funky lasts about 3 or 4 washes on my hair, maybe it's your hair that
retains dye and not the dye holding on.

But for something that I find washes out really easily, try the
Satrgazer range, there one day and gone the next, leaving me with yummy
yellowy, greeny blonde fringe.

Mmmmmmm.

Hey, mine did! It was on the shelf in my closet, got knocked down and
suddenly I had a nice pink floor! It took a very long time to clean
up, and the floor is still stained (luckily the tiles are already
tinted pink ;).

I've had Manic and Punky stay in my hair six weeks, and SFX wash out
in two, so it's a YMMV thing. I've had my hair a mix of Manic's Pretty
Flamingo and Punky's Vermillion for a few months now, and have only
had to dye it once after the initial time. (As a note, my hair is not
at all damaged, quite healthy actually).

Vermillion is an orange red. I mixed it with Pretty Flamingo which is
pink to get a pinker red (I don't like orange red). If you go here,

*shrug* I've had great luck with Punky Colors reds, pinks and burgandies.
Blues, in my experience tend to fade. I slapped in the dye, wrapped up in
plastic wrap and sat around for a couple hours, then I washed with
scarcely any shampoo and rinsed like a mofo. Didn't condition until next
day. I've had it last 1-2 months that way.

I have quested for years for the perfect shade of blue hair (turquoise, not
dark or purply blue) & finally found success with punky color [1] On me it
lasts for weeks. I cant even get the color out all the way when i try!

Here is how i do it:
Bleach hair (at this point I only bleach the fresh re-growth)
Apply punky turquoise, lagoon blue, or 1/2 & 1/2 of both (I only use the cream
& have never tried the gel) I usually even dilute with about 1/4- 1/3 as much
water as dye (I have trouble getting it evenly distributed when its so thick)
Leave color on for AT LEAST 4 hrs
Rinse with water- it will get foamy like shampoo. I rarely use shampoo on the
first wash.

Maintenance:
I only use shampoo about once a week (but *rinse* with water daily in shower) I
prefer Body Shop Brazil Nut or Freemans Sea kelp as they don't strip the color.
I rarely use conditioner as IME it makes the color fade faster. I like my hair
to look ratty anyway :)
I usually go 6-8 weeks before recoloring, as I am lazy, my hair is still
vibrant blue, only fading where my necks sweats when dancing (eeeyyeeww)
good luck!

[1] I used to use manic panic but its a pain in the a$$, it only worked well
for me with the plastic bag & blow dry heat method. The only other dye I liked
was a generic version of cellophane that I havent seen for years.

It's re-packaged punky colour. Or punky colour gel, I'm not sure. Smells
quite flowery/perfumy, though, if that's a help?
I thought it was quite good. Impossible to bleach out, in fact!

the only colors I had problem with were blues... all the other colors (esp.
reds/pinks) were hard to get rid of... but I used the gelles... not the
tubs.. I hear they are made different and harder to find..

Meep! Lagoon blue is the worst color ever. My one experience with it
resulted my hair to turn clumps of blue, bluegreen, green, and brown.
I don't recommend that shade for anyone.

Yeah, in my experience it did about the same thing. Mostly this odd
brownish green faded color. Ick.

I'm still trying to find a decent electric blue color. Special Effects
changed their formula, and now their Electric Blue looks just like the
Blue Velvet. Grrr. All I want is a Superman-esque blue...:P

You know, the blues do fade, but I'm becoming increasingly fond of the
way Midnight Blue fades on my hair. It goes purple! Whereas the
lighter blues will fade green (yuck), this purple based blue fades into
a happy violet, which makes it seem like I'm changing the color of my
hair on purpose every couple of days!

It does stay pretty long before fading, however, as I use a tint brush,
wrap my head in saran wrap, and sleep on it, rinsing the first time
without shampoo.

I used PC Atlantic Blue on my brother. we've bleached his hair before,
but I think when we did the blue hair, we did a fresh bleach job, as the
rest had been cut out/grown out. he was in a real rush to have funky hair
(well, he is 16, and he wanted to make sure we did it before dad changed
his mind), so I bleached it and then put on the PC under Saran Wrap, which
he was too eager to get rid of after an hour.

the result was a gorgeous deep blue. his hair's normally dark brown, but
it had been bleached to a pale lemon yellow before the blue. the spots
that were still slightly oragnish (on the ends) turned out the deepest
blue.

that stuff just didn't want to come out at all. he tried all sorts of
things, and only got it to a light blue-green. my mom wanted it back to
normal for his senior portraits for HS. she called a salon, and they told
her that a) they wouldn't be able to get teh blue out, and b) it would be
hella expensive to try and do so.

leave it to the cool older sister [me] to say "screw them", and fix it
with a box of Casting that was on sale for $1.97. =)
