I'm wondering if anyone here has actually used up an item
of makeup and bought it again. For example, I have about
a million nailpolishes, and the only ones I've re-bought are
OPI Nail Envy and various clear polishes for topcoat action...
and those don't really count. Other makeup-y things I've
bought again after scraping the bottom of the pan include:

MAC Film Noir lipstick
MAC Cyber lipstick
MAC Vex shadow
Maybelline Great Lash (but never again!)
Clinique Double Fudge Lipstick (but that's really old,
I don't use it anymore)
CK Contradiction
Kiehls Lip Balm #1

I've found that MAC shadows last forever, even though the
pan seems so little. And I'm about to go out and get another
StudioFix, it's been about a year of using it off and on, and I'm
currently swishing my rubber pad thingie around the edges.

No.7 tone and cleanse, which I have used for abut 6 years, Max Factor
concealer,
Max Factor Aqua Lash mascara, Rimmel pale biscuit foundation, but I've
recently switched to Revlon Colourstay and I'm trying Leichener. I'm also
about to run out of my Revlon colourstay loose powder, which is lovely, so I
expect I will replace that. I also love my Max Factor liquid eyeliner pen,
which hasnt run out but is getting clogged up with powder and foundation so
it might need replacing.

The only nail polish I've ever repurchased is Formula 10, the bestest top
coat anywhere, I actually have longish nails because of it, and I had the
kind of nails that would peel and break long before they got longish. Oh
yeah, also Wet and Wild 416 (I think), which is silver glitter. I also have
repurchased Origin's Cream Bar, a very gentle facial soap, at $9.50 it's
spendy, but if you only use it for your face, it'll last forever. When I
run out, I will most likely buy Burt's Bees Baby Bee Dusting Powder, it
costs about $13 for the kind in a box, I also have the kind in a shake-tube,
forgot how much that costed...The box I keep at home, the tube is for the
rare occasion when I travel :)

Great poll, viv :)

In the past, when I wore pinkier, shinier lipsticks than I do now, I bought
and rebought Clinique's "Raspberry Glacé" and UltimaII's "Sparkling
Bordeaux". Now I use the testers on my hands and think, "Wow, I actually
*wore* this colour?" I also have multiple bottles of "Victoria" (from VS)
and "Lauren" (Ralph Lauren). I also formerly wore L'Oreal's "Mattique"
foundation in Soft Ivory. There was a pale pink-peach shimmer eyeshadow from
Maybelline ShineFree Colorribbons that I used all the way through junior high
and HS, until I literally couldn't get it anymore anywhere... it was the
exact colour of my skin, silky and highly pigmented, and was a great
"highlighter" eyeshadow.

More recently:

Urban Decay lippie in Roach and Revlon Colorstay in Raisin. I'm about to get
new tubes of UD Gash and Revlon (not Colorstay) Blackberry.

Burt's Bees lipbalm (although I will also use B&BW's).

Perlier Honey Hand Cream (white almond is good too, just diff scents)
B&BW Sun-Ripened Raspberry handcream (the stuff with Shea Butter).

Body Shop Mango Body Butter, although it's too greasy for FL and I haven't
used it much since I bought the second jar, and rather desperately want to
pick up some Nut Body Butter the next time I'm around a Body Shop (they're
all about 90 min of highway driving away). I would also buy their "Satsuma"
shower stuff again.

rice-paper tissues for oil blotting.

L'Oreal, Garden Botanika, Estee Lauder eyeshadows.

Lancome Artliner in "grappe".

Lauder's "More than Mascara".

Neutrogena moisturizers.

Oxy sensitive skin pads (wipe on. wait about a minute. rinse off.)

Mentadent toothpaste and toothbrushes.
The special dental floss made of two fibers (one green, one white) twisted
together, unwaxed, meant for sensitive gums. I forget what it's called.

Biolage shampoos and conditioners (I used to have a fabulous brand loyalty to
Paul Mitchell Shampoo One and Nexxus Ensure, but no longer... hairdresser
said I needed something lighter for my short hair...)

Rave Microspray #4.

Lubriderm Seriously Sensitive lotion.

Gilette Sensor Ultra for Women Razors.

Aveeno shaving cream.

TresEmme leave-in conditioner (biiiig grey bottle).

Queen Helene Mint Julep deodorant.
Jason Apricot and E deodorant.

I guess I have brand loyalty on a lot of things... or else I'm unwilling to
fool around when I'm looking for something like toothpaste or deodorant. I
could also make the short list of things I would abso-freaking-lutely NEVER
buy again (those silicon hair-removal mitts; L'Oreal Feel Naturale
foundation; Almay Amazing I-Liner; any skincare product by Clinique; Biore
self-warming mask; a few others).

I'm curious.. what didn't you like about these? I'm using a
knock-off of Clinique that Sally's sells (Skin Careapy) and
I love it. Lots. The breakout problem has gone way down
since I started using it, and now i'm using the whole line.
The Biore masks I only use about once a month, but they seem
to do the trick if I want to get gunk out of my pores.

UD Gash...3 times!
MAC Studiofix (although I guess I'll be changing colors this time
around!)
MAC mascara

and that's it so far. Although I am close to finishing an Aveda lippie
which I want to repurchase...

Loreal's Hydrate Perfecte. Nice for those dry patches, but
doesn't aggrevate any nasty flare-ups. Comes in the perfect

Makeup: Yes, in terms of the basics. I like Cover Girl Balanced
Complexion powder and foundation in Ivoire, their Invisible Concealer
in Fair, and Remarkable Mascara in Black. I'm *very* close to
finishing off my tube of Fetish "Socialite" lipstick, and have started
another one I keep in my purse. It's the perfect everyday lipstick
for me, but I suspect this line is being cancelled out. Both Targets
near here have the stuff makred down to $2.70 and it's disappearing
*fast*.

In terms of toiletries, I go through bottles of Albert VO5 Jojoba
shampoo all the time. It's sooo cheap, and smells great.

And Secret Ultra Dry Unscented deodorant has been a favorite for quite
a while.

There's really only one thing...Almay's Clear Complexion translucent pressed
powder. I go through all my make-up so sloooowwwllly, except for this.

As for toiletries, I'm constantly rotating products and brands...I'll buy one
thing, then another, then another, then go back to that first thing. I'll
just list brands: Salon Selectives, Biore, L'Oreal (hair and skin), Clairol,
Willow Lake, Pantene. It just depends on my mood when I'm shopping. Plus, I
like trying new products all the time.

I tried to buy more Manic Panic Ultra Violet lipstick but they had
discontinued it, and I think it's out again only a different shade. bleh. It
matched my hair.

I buy Jane white eyeshodow over and over again, because when I use up the

Hmm..

-Palladio rice powder (two boxes and trying to find more :( ) in white
-Revlon Streetwear "Blood" lippie
-Revlon streetwear allover pencil in grape (which I no longer use)
-Px foundation in "papyrus" (I KNOW I spelled that wrong..) which is
the only color gold enough and yet light enough for me.. (Three
bottles and need a 4th soon)
-Revlon colorstay "Vixen" eyeliner (which dries my skin too much now.
:( )
-Revlon colorstay foundation in Ivory 01(mostly used for renfest)

Not many things really.. but they're important. ^_^

I had a *horrible* experience with Clinique when I was about 15 years old
where my whole face broke out in oozing sores (not kidding!). I've since read
up on them a lot, and I wouldn't use their stuff. It's not gentle, it's not
anything special. Their moisturisers are good, though. A lot of Clinique's
appeal is the "medical" image. (I really loathe Paula Begoun because she
seems to think that every woman wants to look like a 40-yr-old real estate
agent, but certain things that she's said about ingredients of various
products are right-on. BTW, if you get the chance to see the latest edition
of her Cosmetics Counter book, the reviews of Hard Candy and Urban Decay
stuff are hilarious. She really doesn't know what to make of cosmetics that
are absolutely intentionally shimmery, no bones about it, it's a major
selling point.)

> The Biore masks I only use about once a month, but they seem

I bought a package and just found it to be hideously overpriced for what it
did (which, on my skin, was nothing much). If I wanted to spend that much on
a mask product, I'd just spring for something "in bulk" and buy more Borghese
Fango (which is the only mask that has ever made a "visible difference" for
me :) The heating felt good, but it only really heated when I was rubbing
it, and I couldn't rub it everywhere on my face at once.

W'n'W nail polish #413.. it's a clear coat w/silver glitteries.. #^_^# I

Well, it's not a use for white eyeshadow, but rather, for white
eyeliner...If you line your eyes in white and then go over it with a
coloured eyeliner, you'll end up with a pastel-type liner...Works well with
black, makes a nifty dove-grey liner, ofcourse, it dpeneds on one's skin
tone as to whether it looks good or not...The really soft kohl pencils, like
Wet and Widl's, work really well for this.

Hey, come on, there are some of us who haven't used up bottles of black nail
polish ;) Heck, there are some of us who rarely, if ever, wear it. I have
three bottles of black nail polish, a Fetish plain black (I think the name
was Dominate or Dominatrix or something lik that), a Nordstrom Brass Plum
black in a nifty 50's style bottle, came with holographic glitter in it (and
there was lots of glitter, yee-hah!), and a Wet and Wild that had silver
glitter in it. To my knowledge, I've never used the Fetish, used the
Nordstrom one on my hands once and on my toes twice, and used the Wet and
Wild on my toes a few times but never on my hands.

See Top 10 poll. :)

As far as stuff that didn't make it onto the poll:

--Almay Amazing Lasting foundation. Almay has been my foundation of
choice for several years because it's the only drugstore brand that
doesn't break me out *and* comes in a shade that's pale enough for me
and not too yellow. I liked this stuff *very* much when I first tried
it; I'm going off it a little bit now. Since it's one of those
"smudge-proof" types of foundation, you have to put it on *quickly*, or
it dries and won't budge. Also, it tends to cake if it isn't thinned a
bit. I've been thinking more and more about a high-end foundation, but
I'm really leery. It's a lot of money, and with my freakish skin--I
have no trouble with eye products or lippies, but stuff on the rest of
my face can make me break out in a matter of hours if it isn't designed
for sensitive skin--I would hate to spend so much on something I can't
wear. The MAC stuff looks to be in the right shade range, but I get
intimidated every time I go to the counter.

--UD Gash lippie. This is really the only red lipstick I wear anymore.
With burgundy hair I can't wear true reds, and the brown/pink tone of
this makes it not clash with my haircolor.

--L'Oreal Colorvive conditioner. I'm not sure I'm *happy* with this,
but I'm not unhappy either. I'm less troubled by it than by anything
else I've tried.

--Degree antiperspirant. I used Lady Speed Stick for quite awhile, and
then noticed about a year ago that it really wasn't working very well.
Ran out before I could get to the store; boi had a pack of this from
Costco and I bought one off him. Very happy with it.

Green colour-corrective stick, but I'm completely blanking on the
brand. (goes downstairs and looks) ah, yes, it's Boots No.7. I go
through these at about six-month intervals.

Of course, the last one got used up rather quickly as I was at a LARP
event when a friend wandered up and said 'anyone got any greasepaint?
I need to look undead,'

I don't think anyone realised that his unhealthy green skin tone,
hollow eyes and cheeks, and highlighted cheekbones were the result of
a liberally applied green colour-corrective stick, a concealer stick
in 'Very Fair' a black eyeliner pencil and some purple eyeliner,
finished off with Stargazer powder and strict instructions not to
scratch his nose.

He got a bit annoyed when I stopped him on the way to an important
council in order to make up the back of his neck, mind you...

Huh... I've never had anything but good luck with Clinique... it's one of
the few lines that *doesn't* make me break out. (Possibly because I have
allergies to a lot of "natural" ingredients... even lavender which is
often used as a soothing ingredient... and Clinique doesn't use anything I
react to, maybe???) Guess it just goes to show you that different
people's skin needs different sorts of products.

Anyways... recent repurchases:
Cetaphil cleanser.
Clinique cityblock sunscreen
Aubrey Organics GPB conditioner

I don't usually repurchase colored things 'cuz I'm such a junkie for new

without it! Oh and I *wish* I could find Urban Decay's Uzi nailpolish

Solution: don't buy a poofy thing. (I'm assuming you're talking about
loose powder for the face.) Buy a good-quality powder brush. I've got
one that's lasted me for eight years. Better control and more even
coverage with a brush.

Oh, see, here is the grand thing about high-end makeup.

First of all, I haven't been to too many MAC counters - just two over the
past month or so - but at both, the people were extremely friendly, and they
have those huge well-lit mirrors and will help you find the right shades and
all. More to the point, almost every department store that would sell this
stuff has a liberal return policy. If you can buy it on either the store's
own card or a Visa/Mastercard, even better - returns become even less of a
hassle. Just keep your receipt and all the original packaging unless you are
sure it's what you want. Most places HAVE to take this stuff back, and if you
return it in a timely manner, it shouldn't be too big a deal. It's not like
drugstore makeup, where you're taking your chances AND there aren't any
testers.

Speaking of high end. I was wondering about Clinique's product that soaks up

Has anyone used it? If so is it worth the money? I tried the Bonne Bells a few

From what i've heard over on alt.fashion, dept. store lighting is awful.
When your purchashing anything you should try the color on your face
first, then look at it in daylight to make sure it looks correct.

Before you buy it you could have the sales asssistant or makeup
assistant give you a makeover with the stuff and wear it around for the
day to make sure it dosen't make you break out and whatnot.
Of course, theres always samples of products avalable at some counters
too.

*delurking for the hell of it*
That's pretty much true. Most stores have fluorescent lights (ugh, the
worst kind, if you ask me) so unless you spend a lot of time under
them, the makeup will look very different. A lot of people look
washed out and greenish in that kind of lighting, so makeup that
combats that in the store might be way too much in normal light.

The mirrors that are really lit seem silly to me, in the same theory.
Unless you spend a lot of time with your face lit by 4 or more soft
bulbs, then you're not getting an accurate picture. I say, grab some
samples and try them out in your bathroom (or wherever you usually put
makeup on.)

Stargazer white powder compact.
Rimmel Inkwell eyeshadow (before they stopped doing it and I started

Original message didn't show up on my newsserver, so i'm just using what was
on Thessaly's post, attributed to Ice Princess...Anyways, when I was in my
freshman year, I decided I wanted to wear makeup, and I knew that
Prescriptives would find a foundation that matched your skin perfectly, and
they can also custom mix one in any of their formulations. It costs $28,
but when I next buy foundation (if I ever start wearing makeup again), it'll
most definately be from Prescriptives. The colour was RIGHT ON (though now
WAY too light, I had mono then and spent almost all my time at home
sleeping), it was light (foundation drives me crazy, always makes me feel
like I have a mud mask on my face, I don't want to FEEL the foundation, dang
it!), but had good coverage. AND it didn't make me break out, and my skin
would go nuts at the slightest little thing, so it was a godsend. It's
definately spendy stuff, but the first colour they gave me didn't quite look
right in natural light, so I took it back and no questions were asked, they
found a new colour for me and it was the right one...Generally when you buy
the high-end department stoer stuff, they'll let you return it unless you've
used a whole lot. I've found that going to your local department store,
visiting every counter there and having the girl find the right foundation
for you and then taking home samples of every single one is a good thing,
try wearing each one for two weeks and seeing what it does to your skin
(ofcourse, if it makes you break out horribly the first day, don't wear it
again), generally they don't mind if you ask for samples...I did this when
looking for new moisturizers and bought one that was good for my skin (I
would've preferred the Dior, but I couldn't afford the 50 some dollars it
costed, so I got the $24 MAC instead)...

- Chanel "Vamp" lipstick. I kid you not, I have *willingly* paid $20 for
lipstick about six times since the colour was introduced. It's my standard
lipstick. Good colour (which I haven't been able to find an exact match for
in any other line, which is why I'm still buying it), good coverage, and I
like the rose fragrance of it.

- BeneFit's "SheLaq" waterproofing liquid. It's what I use with cake
eyeliner instead of water; it makes the eyeliner pretty much indestructible
until I wash it off.

- L'Oreal "Le Grand Curl" mascara in Noir. I'm not willing to spend more than
$10 for mascara, and this stuff is the best that I've found so far.

and while not exactly makeup...

- Estee Lauder's "Uncircle" eyecream. It really *does* make my genetically-
given dark circles lighter. I don't know how, and I'm suspecting some sort of
black magic, but I don't care. It works.

To clarify... I was specifically speaking of the mirror at the MAC counter
where I bought foundation last week. It is a round mirror surrounded with a
fairly harsh bulb which I think simulates daylight (at least, it reminds me
of the "day" setting on my old vanity mirror). It is NOT soft at all... very
white and bright. I would say that the major problem is having to stick your
nose into it to get all that light onto your face. But it's *not* soft,
flattering lighting, or like those theatrical/home mirrors surrounded by
normal incandescent lightbulbs.

FWIW, I don't think trying them in your bathroom is the best way to judge
anyways... I would suggest going outside and looking in a mirror... that's
how you can REALLY tell if makeup makes you look like a clown. My bathroom
has really flattering lighting... it's good for club makeup, but not much
else!
