Why does eBay cancel my Gothic art?

I was making some good spare cash on eBay a while ago selling my OOAK (one of a
kind) original gothic art but then they started ending my auctions recently.
The first time they said my gothic doll was inappropriate to be listed on the
site. The next time it was cancelled cause it was offensive material. But
offensive to whom? The Nebraska P.T.A.? Snooty doll collectors? Who is
reporting my items to eBay?
I get dolls and make them up into cool original peices of gothic art and
apparently this type of art is from an unrecognized subculture of society to
eBay.
Its ok to list horror movies, bloody halloween masks of crushed skulls with
flesh hanging off but my Goth Barbie gets ended cause I put some blood on her
face and a body pearcing. Hello!!! Freddy Kreuger masks are nothing but burnt
bloody flesh but those are ok. I dont get it. So a halloween mask of Pinhead
from Hell raiser is ok but I can't put a pearcing on Barbie or any other doll?
They let auctions of ancient works of art from Greece and Egypt showing human
sacrafices but don't consider my gothic peices true art. Us goths are a
subculture and although our artwork leans towards the darkside of humanity I
still think it should be recognized as a legit art form and treated as such. We
aren't mainstream and frown on anything that is but still should have somewhere
to sell our art.
After many emails to sup...@ebay.com I realized that the reps are just doing
their jobs but I wish they would hire just one open minded Goth to review
complainst of gothic art. I trully don't think that eBay understands out
culture like someone on the inside of goth life would.
I have a perfect feedback rating and all my buyers love my work and I will
still use eBay but not for any original gothic art which used to make them lots
of money also.
Yes we embrace vampires, MM and other things in our subculture that would
frighten the norms but we shouldn't be ignored. We are people, artists and
customers.
Once upon a time the art of tatoos was not recognized as a legit art form.
Tatoos were taboo and only for the unsophicticated of society. Tatooed men and
women displayed at freak and side shows to norms willing to pay 5 cents. Is
this where our art form is at this time? How long will it take to recognize our
art form?

sometimes they end them because barbie is a trademark(copyright), so even tho
you are altering her, its still a barbie, if someone sees your auction and
complains to them, they might remove it for that reason...unless they are nude,
which it dopesnt sound like, but maybe try listing one in the mature users
sectioon?

Speak for yourself, doll. I embrace MM about as openly as I'd embrace a

Once upon a time? Honey, it still *is* considered a thing of lesser
society.
Good luck with your auctions though. I might suggest that you not put
any references to Barbie in your listings. ebay gets all in a wad over
that intellectual property hubbub.

Sounds kinda neat :)- apart from getting the auctions ended.

Unfortunatly some things kinda work like that, like how people complain
about children seeing murder in films, but on the news its fine?? I'm afraid
you will have problems with some things. Maybe because Barbie is a kiddie
doll she's not allowed piercings? Mine didn't even have ear rings...

I've never actually hugged a vamp, but i wouldn't say no ;) As for MM.... he
needs a good smacking and an injection of that drug known as talent.

I was watching a documentary about Tattoos and its been an art form for
hundreds of years in the eastern cultures... i'm sure thats what was said. I
think the main reason tattoos are not recognised as art is because of the
whole Romans branding their slaves as punishment thing? And opinion of
course.

Is the 5 cent thing a joke or is it true?? I never heard that one before,
didn't tattoos only really became "regular" in the 80's i think?? (correct
me if i'm wrong!!) Again i'm saying about opinion- art is totally based on
opinion and feelings. Look at people like Van Gogh and Picasso who weren't
famous for their artwork until they died... people disliked it, but more
recent generations like it. You're never going to do something everyone
approves of "mainstream" or not- life doesn't work that way and neither does
taste.

Unmodified horror genre stuff is way different from your Barbies.
Unmodified being the key word there.
I would hazard to say that you have fallen under the Curse of Mattel
and the phobias of E-bay's lawyers.
Mattel has been getting downright hard-assed about Barbie and her many
uses lately. One Barbie gets reported, Ebay panics, and suddenly your
stuff is under scrutiny. Nothing that screams "abuse of intellectual
property" to the lawyers gets to stay up. Bang bang you are dead.
Artists With Money have been unable to Make Statements using modified
Barbies. No way are you going to pull it off once your noticed, and
any dolly that you didn't make yourself is going to go down if anybody
thinks it's vaguely recognizable. Ebay prolly has a list and people
who don't know Malibu Barbie from a Cabbage Patch Kid enforcing it.
While they may use other excuses, I'd bet my new silk velvet justacorp
that what I have said is the backbone of your poblem.

Sell the clothing to fit "Industry Standard 12 inch (?) doll" or some
similay title.
Something along these lines should be legal, but obviously "Barbie" is a
trademarked name and you cannot use it.

Just remember, the only reason it was cancelled because some user
reported it - eBay does NOT search through listings theirselves trying
to find ones that shouldn't be listed.
Likely someone who is selling something similar is reporting you
whenever you list any auctions.
My advice: wait awhile before posting another auction and hope that the
person tires of turning you in every time you run auctions. You could
also always get a second email address and make a new registration, but,
to make it unsearchable, you'd have none of your current feedback.

If it was a copyright issue, I think they would have said so, if
they're calling it 'inappropriate' or 'offensive', it may have
something to do about the sept. 11th thing. A lot of people are really
freaking out about fake blood, even on dolls. There were (suppossedly)
some cities where Halloween costumes involving any kind of fake blood
were not allowed to be worn in public.
Of course, the horror movie industry is still in full swing.
I believe this is what Orwell referred to as 'double think'.
Anyway, someone must be complaining. The trick is to post something
that will be hidden from those who might complain, yet easily
accessible to your customer base.
Don't use words like 'barbie' 'doll' or 'toy', because people who do
searches on keywords like these are probably not happy to see your
work.
Maybe you could write a description and save it as an image, so the
words wouldn't be picked up, but could still be read.
Only use text like 'spooky', 'pierced', 'horror', or whatever else you
think your intended audience searches for in the title.
P.S. Feel free to like MM all you want, but don't assume all goths
'embrace' him... and vampires.....?

AFIK, selling altered Barbie's of all kinds is pretty popular on eBay, and an
accepted art form among collectors. Do a search for OOAK Barbie and you come up
with a good 200-300 listings.
