i've got..so much stuff. granted most of it's cheap to moderately cheap drug
store brand stuff, but it's just..so much. and i never wear the majority of it.
i was thinking about doing a major makeupbox cleaning and swapping/giving away
most of this junk, but.. :whimper: i just..can't. i love my makeup. and i hate
it. i can't get rid of any of it, even the things i never wear.
sure, i've got millions of black eyeliners, mascaras, burgandy/red/deep purple
lippies and about 50 different grey/silver eyeshadows.. but when am i going to
wear *bright* hot pink eyeliner? green, yellow, or lavendar mascara? the
l'oreal "blue mood" lippie, which clashes horribly with me? but it's mine. i
love it all. i sit in front of the mirror and play with it. i put on my hot
pink eyeliner and giggle at my cuteness and the silliness of it. i streak my
hair with hair mascara, but never leave the house with it on. i decorate myself
all pretty, but the creative bug just never hits me when i'm actually going
somewhere!
i could never melt down all my lippies to make one (maybe orgasm worthy) shade.
even if i never wear them, they've gotta be there. just to remind me that one
day they might just be the perfect shade i'm looking for. just to remind me
that i spent money on them. they like laughing at me.

god, i know that feeling.
i believe that my makeup conspires against me.
it hides.
me: has anyone seen my silver eyeshadow?

Singin' to the choir, sista!
I went crazy today and spent far far too much money on makeup (all
drugstore stuff, which means that, for the money I spent, I got two bags
full!). But will I wear it all? Not bloody likely. Sure, I'll crack open
that iridescent green-black nailie once, wear it for a week, then go back
to my same ol' dried-blood red stuff. I'll give the purply lippie a tryout
for a night, but then go back to the standard-issue Gash. And why, oh, why
did I buy all those makeup brushes? Like I'm really going to paint my lips
that precisely. Sh-yeah, right, as if!
But can I stop buying more? No. Never. I'm a junkie lookin' for her
pretty-colored fix.
Anyone else find they buy a whole lot of makeup that is startelingly
similar to stuff they already have? I usually do that. Today, I felt
pretty good about *not* doing that quite as much (tho' I still got the
semi-Gash wanna-be np from Revlon...). I do this the worst w/nailies --
maybe I should line them up according to shade of dried-blood red and paint
each nail from a different bottle.....

Mememe! 'Cept with me it's plum/purple. How many years now have I been
looking for that "ideal" shade of plum ____________ (fill in the blank)?
(Answer: a lot.) And how many times do I find it, and then a week later
start looking again? (Answer: always.) And how many times do I end up
sticking with one or two colors in each category and only wearing the others
occasionally, if at all? (Answer: always.) I actually got rid of five of
my plum/purple NPs in the giveaway....that leaves me with, oh, let's see,
eight. :)
I was looking at my new Garden Botanika "Paintbox" today and realized that I
already have every single color in it, except for the blush, which is too
orange for me in any case and won't even work for pledge drives. Why the hell
did I buy it? Because it's "neat." Which is a really stupid reason to buy makeup.
Out tonight with my best friend and his girlfriend. Abruptly he asked me
"What color is your lipstick?" I stared at him blankly. He explained that he
was trying to figure out if she and I wore the same color, and then said "What
color do you normally wear?" I laughed and said "I don't know--I have 27
different lipsticks!" He was rather taken aback by that. (She wears Bruise,
which I don't--too brown for me.)
I'm thinking about seeing if I can combine some of my various eyeshadow pans
into one containes--I have so many with one color I never wear, and I could
save so much space...but that's probably a pipe dream.

I was born into this world a makeup fiend. My mom has pictures of me at 2 years
old with a lipstick tube in hand. By the time I was 5, I had aquired
hand-me-down makeup from my mom to play with. When I reached 11 or 12, I
decided this MUST be a career for me, I am destined to be a makeup artist! And
now.. years later, I'm going to school to become a makeup artist for the film
industry here in Los Angeles. See.. this way I can do what I love, and I have
an excuse for owning LOADS of makeup. The MAC store knows me by name :hangs

don't you need a certain number of hours of intruction or practice to get
state board certified? i used to live in california and when i took
cosmetology classes through the adult school it was 400 hours for nails
and 1600 hours for cosmetology which included nails, facials, and makeup.
it did not have to be paid working time, these hours, whenever you were
at the adult school practicing on classmates or working in their salon it
counted for time.

i know how you feel, but i don't think that's entirely true. i couldn't go
to field camp and be a geology major because i couldnt afford to pay for
the camp and more importantly i couldnt afford to not work for the summer.
however, i have friends that have money and i'm going to be the one with a
very sweet paying job when i graduate because i have skills and real work
experience. they always say "oh at least you'll have a job when you
graduate"
this sounds alot like the 'am i the only underpaid person here' or
whatever thread on a.g. a while ago. i dont think internship type things
make or break you. i have had the same job for 3 years that i also work in
the summers as a computer consultant and for 2 years as the head
consultant managing 45 consultants. when someone sees you have 'real' work
experience, it matters.
aahhh- off topic. but then again, in your chosen field, it's traditionally
hard to make it and on the other hand, it's very easy to get a computer
job...

Is this from the new bewitched covergirl line, or whatever its called?
Because i've been eyeing the lippies for a while now, paticually the
mirrior smoke shade, but have been wary to buy because of quality.
~ @ ~ Geraldine , eating peanut butter ice cream.
Nah, that's one of the best reasons to buy makeup!
I had a minor epiphany today, whilst sorting thru my latest makeup
purchases..... makeup is easier & more fun to buy than clothes. Now, I've
been a huge clotheshorse all my life & have the over-stuffed closets to
prove it. But clothes shopping can be a real pain. You have to try stuff
on, which messes up the outfit you're already wearing, and the new stuff
may not fit or look just right on you.
But makeup is a breeze! Woohoo, this color is purty <goes into the
shopping basket>. Mmmm, I bet this would go w/that old dress I haven't
worn for a year <goes into the shopping basket>. Whee, this matches my
new haircolor <goes into the shopping basket>. Ooooo, this color reminds
me of an album cover[1] <goes into the shopping basket>. Hey, that's just
too neat to pass up <goes into the shopping basket>. And makeup can be
cheaper than clothes, so I don't feel as bad w/15 items in the basket.
Of course, you realize that these are all merely the justifications of a
confessed addict ;->

[1] Yes, I really thot this. Yesterday, in fact. The album was 'Close to
the Edge' by Yes. It's all one big green gradient, that, if it were
iridescent, would look kinda like a nailpolish I bought!
Nah, it's from Garden Botanika. A spot of gloss under or over it will solve
the problem (and the color, when it wears off, at least wears off *evenly*,
rather than leaving me with a big ugly ring round the outside of my lips), but
it is disappointing that it's not better quality.
I keep looking at the "Bewitched" stuff too, putting it in my shopping basket,
then slapping myself on the wrist and putting it back. CG quality is
okay--nothing spectacular, but not horrid. I haven't worn any of their
lippies for awhile as they've tended in the mid-range pinks/corals and I don't
wear those anymore, but my recollection is that they had decent staying power
(comes off with normal activities like eating, drinking, etc but doesn't
simply disappear from wearing it for three hours), are a bit waxy but not
heavy or dry.

He he! Yes album covers are quite inspirational color-wise...all that
vivid, mystical Roger Dean art.
And a good album, too. YoungerGoths, go have a flip through the "Y"
section at your local record (ahem, CD) store, or perhaps a book of Roger
Dean art (I believe Paper Tiger published some, don't know if they're
still in print). Inspirational, indeed!

Glue 'em into CD cases.
Buy a couple of empty cases, make a nice liner for the front, rip the

lot of the little pans in there (as long as they're not too tall).

Oh boy.. unless you have alot of money to drop for schooling, you're in
trouble. I'm cringing at the thought of the money I'm putting out for makeup
artistry school. And alot of times they (commercials, shoots, etc.) expect you
to be able to do hair too. So if you wanna work.. you kinda need cosmetology
school as well. That's another year to 14 months, and MORE money. augh!
>> i get offered makeup jobs, and i should take them, because i need a

Yessiree.. for union (in the film industry) you have to take alot of lower
paying non-union jobs before you can get the hours to get in. I was just quoted
5 grand total for makeup artistry to get into the union, IF you can pass the
hell-on-earth entrance tests. oh gods.

For California, to get certified by the state board, you need 1600 hours total.
That includes cosmetology, manicurist, and aesthatitian. If you go every day
like you're supposed to, for the years' time, you'll have all your hours to be
able to go to the state board cosmetology testing to get your liscense.

Yeah, that's true. It kinda sucks.. it takes a long time, and alot of money to
get established in this field. Some people struggle for 4-5 years before
getting into the union (you WANT in).
So, if you're looking to do makeup artistry, or hair design for the film
industry, make sure this is something you WANT to do with all your soul.. like,
you can't see yourself doing anything else. It takes alot.. you havta have the
drive to do this. Otherwise, you'll be wasting alot of time and money.

if you live in the LA Area, the Hacienda LaPuente Adult Ed. program in
cosmetology is free. you just have to pay for your supplies. i dont think
it is too much to ask for ppl who are going to be touching my face and
nails to go to school for 1 year or 2.
i dont know if it matters where you go to cosmetology school for the biz
tho. if Mirabella or Barbazon or whatever is better than plain ol' adult
ed.

Wet 'n Wild Crystalic nail polish, in Blackest Green #495A. It's a really
pretty green, not very black, just a nice, deep green like at the top of
the album cover (& I suppose one could try to paint their nails in that
gradient dark-to-light style...).
