My housemate does makeup and wardrobe for commercials and billboards
and gets about every catalogue known to man. Yesterday, I came home
from work and looked at the Spiegal Newport News catalogue b/c the
clothes are so ugly that I love to ogle them. (Things like cut-out
acid wash denim jackets with shoulder pads).
But lo! I don't have a page number b/c the catalogue disappeared, but
there is a nice looking black pencil skirt for $34.99, I think. It
even comes in women's sizes up to 24. You have to buy it before some
time in Feb. to get that price, though. I thought some of you might
appreciate this.
have a good long weekend!

i think much of the pencil skirt whining was from me. :) i took a look
through spiegel's online catalog and didn't have much luck - do you
remember what the skirt was called? as in, was it "pencil skirt"
"midi-length skirt" "tart-of-the-week skirt" ;)
thanks so much - you rock!

I'm eyeballing it, too. Although I look kind of wierd in stuff that
has high waists, like Urkel (flash from the past). What is that, short
waisted or something? Can't remember...
Also, if you do a search on "pencil skirt," it'll also pull up a few
more styles including one with a side slit.
Gbye. :)

i know there's a newport news thread where everybody's complaining here
somewhere, but i can't find it, so sorry...but i just got *my*pencil skirt
from them and i'm not very happy with it either. it's the midi one, just so
you know. due to their, IMO, fucked up size chart, i had to get a size 16
skirt, and even though i'm usually somewhere around a 10, i went ahead and
followed the chart. lo and behold, a 16's way too big, just like you'd
think, since i'm really a 10!
arrrgh,
Liz

i actually started the other whining thread. :) i bought the pencil
skirt in the above link (i had thought the original post in this thread
might be regarding a skirt from the spiegel catalog instead of newport news.
i was really underimpressed, to a degree with the construction and cut
(a stretchy outler layer, but an inner layer with no flex - reeeeally
defeats the point) but mostly because they send me the wrong size, a 12
tall instead of a 12 regular. i was pretty underwhelmed as well.
but a number of people who posted to the other thread had some good
suggstion and nice things to say about newport news. the main points
were: 1. keep your expectations low, and 2. non-tailored items are a
good bet.

Yep! Did you get that coveted shirt of yours, too? (Think it was
you)...

Just "pencil skirt." Think it only comes in black, and I don't think
it would be in the regular Spiegal, just the ultra-heinous spinoff,
Newport News.
