Bought my last pair about 3 years ago and the soles have started to get
a bit thin arround the heel and ball, so I figured, no bother I nip out
and get another pair at the weekend. I have just spent 5 hours, looking
arround town, driving out to Cheshire Oaks and trying all the sports
shop clearance outlets, and searching ebay.
I remember I paid £15 for my last pair, and looking at the flimsier
Airwalk and Lee Cooper versions around that still seems to be about the
right price, but they feel floppier and thinner than my worn out All
Stars do when they are ready for the bin. Can't find Converse anywhere
in the real world, and the cheapest pair that look like they might be
genuine rather than a Chinese knockoff on Ebay are £30 + £5 PnP.
What the fuck happened to them? 800,000,000 pairs sold world wide since
the 1940s and they seem to have disappeared except for a few over-priced
ones. Even searching the Converse US website, adult lotop Chucks seem to
be no more. WTF have Nike done to Converse?
Pissed off that a major part of my wardrobe constant is changing.

You're right. My DH gets his at the local Journey's store, so I
checked the website. Unfortunately, http://www.journeys.com does not
look like it ships outside the US/US territories. However, http://www.eastbay.com
ships to the UK AND has Chucks...I just don't know how reliable they
are because I've never used them.
Good luck,

Ah well, time to change the habit of a lifetime.
Look again! If the link below doesn't work, then go back to the
eastbay website and search for product number 9166.

DH said if he were in [your shoes, haha!], it would be worth it to him
to look into the matter.
The black canvas lo-tops are apparently shipping today, 10/01/2009.
Your best bet is to contact their customer service and find out if
that means they are shipping from the manufacturer to Eastbay on 10/1,
or if they are shipping from Eastbay to the customers that pre-ordered
the shoes on 10/1. If it is the former, find out when Eastbay is
expecting them to arrive and how long it will take from that date to
ship to you. They probably have an idea of length of time it takes to
ship a shoe box from US to UK. The website says international orders
take up to 30 days to arrive, but that's probably an over-estimate
seeing as they ship the items within 24 hours of order placement.
Also, you can order from Amazon, but it looks like their shipping
charges for clothing/shoes are pretty outrageous and it will take
about 18-26 days to get to UK.

I've never used them. Only time I've heard of East Bay was from my ex
because he was telling me that our juggalo friend told him that when he
used to be a yo, he would be in classes where all the other hood kids
were always looking at the East Bay catalog.

Meanwhile, I've never owned a set until August when I was in Melrose
Army Navy in Melrose, MA, US, while on vacation from Job Corps. Late
last month, the black strip on the rubber has started to peel-off.
($30-something for me.)
-TenshiKurai9, wondering how long they're going to last.
