I...have a love affair with modest wedding dresses. I'm not Mormon,
and I've been married for over six years with no intentions of re-
enacting the occassion, but I've worked in bridal (mostly as a buyer
and a consultant) and would love to at some point have my own bridal
shop or work more in bridal design. I also find myself frequently
flipping through bridal magazines and checking up on new collections.
And the more I think about it, the more I love modest wedding
dresses! I think to achieve a modest gown that isn't boring says a
lot about thoughtful design and construction, not to mention the bride
who chooses to wear it. For instance, I recently came across this
number from Cymbeline Paris: http://www.cymbelineusa.com/emailImage.aspx?imagename=28_capucine.jpg

My tidbit of the week.
By the way, what's a good place to upload photographs (for example, of
the synthetic leather cincher or the skirt with train that I've
recently worked on) for free in order to share them here? Thanks!

That is a gorgeous dress! I really like wedding dresses and
weddings, too. My husband and I have had 4 weddings to each other, so
far. My DH likes weddings. We were married by a Justice of the
Peace, then had a religious service. One of his teachers wanted
another religious service, so we had another wedding. The last
wedding was an SCA Mongolian wedding for our SCA personas. He wants
to have another wedding for our 20th anniversary because it would be
fun. We probably will have an SCA Viking theme or something similar.

Koko,

That sounds like so much fun! My husband and I had a justice of the
peace ceremony followed a few months later by a big garden ceremony
for family and friends to witness. Our marriage license was from
Tarrant County, TX, and it was so beautiful that we had actually
talked about getting married in every state just to collect various
marriage licenses (but not filing them). However, I started working
in the bridal industry after we got married, and I realized I just
didn't want to go through the bother of planning my own wedding over
and over again. On the other hand, I WOULD love more occassions to
dress up for.
Speaking of which, several months ago I had mentioned that my husband
was in a band--well, this spring, we went to the My Bloody Valentine
concert in Dallas, and he was so inspired that over the summer, he
quit the band he was in and started writing his own music. He pooled
together some of his most talented friends, and taught me to play
bass, and we're playing our first gig on Monday.
I really missed dressing up, so I agreed to play bass on the condition
that I could "dress up" for every performance. So I'll wear my new
cincher and my Victorian skirt, and it being so close to Halloween,
I'll attempt to make DH a Little Prince-esque jacket this weekend if I
have time.
We are talking with someone about recording, but that won't happen
until November or December at the earliest.

Love!
Celena

That is so cool! The new band sounds like it will be fantastic!
The outfit will look very nice, too. This may sound weird, but
practice in your outfit beforehand. You don't want to be wearing
something for the first time on stage.
