At Kest's request, here is the official C16 Ratification thread for
Madelyn's Utah bid.

So ratify away people.

Me, I say it's a winning concept & endorse it.

I had an interesting discussion last night with someone about this
very thing. He asked me if I was scared to be named on the committee
and the initial bid. And I told him of course I wasnt, in fact I for
one was excited to be putting on a party of this scope. I live for the
pressure. I was hoping not to have to pull out the credentials too
much, but if anyone is curious about anything as far as bands please
ask in this process I know I have said this before but I am serious.

And just so its ON topic. I will ratify my own bid :D

I agree with all that has been said. I have the utmost confidence in
Madelyn and the people she has chosen to head up her commitee. These
are people with amazing abilities and the uniqueness of the bid and
place should make for a really fantastic C*. And as said before, I
will help in whatever ways I am able, given the parental
responsibilities.

Despite my disappointment at the entire lack of
Convergence drama this year, I support ratification of this bid.

`una - not really disappointed, just spoiling for an intelligent argument
(as opposed to those vapid arguments I've been running into lately.)

There is no requirement that Convergence happen in a state, and 2 have
already done so, so your objection will not be counted.

Morval responded to another's post:

When posting in response, please quote the post that you are responding to,
even if only for context. The ideal alt.gothic post implies conversation in
and of itself. Failing to attribute makes you look like a campus socialist.
That's a Scientific Fact. Failing to quote at all makes you look like a
tabloid journalist. That too is a Scientific Fact.

Welcome to alt.gothic.

Don't top post. It causes crabs. That's a Scientific Fact. Instead, post
underneath the message you are responding to, trimming that which is not
necessary for context.

In answer to your question, Utah.

Messages in NNTP format should include attribution and for purposes of
conversational clarity contextual quotation. Posting without it being clear
from the body what you are responding to makes you look like a person using
a handsfree earpiece to place a phonecall. You appear either mentally ill or
a wanker. That's a Scientific Fact.

While I always support your Scientific Factologistizing, in this case I
must point out that, really, the only *necessary* bit of context is in
the subject line.

Could have sworn there was a requirement that Convergence happen in a
state of inebriation.

Was I wrong?

When legislating we should always take care to distinguish between 'must',
'should', and 'ought'. So I think it less a guideline, with attendant
responsibilities, but a suggestion given weight.

Yeah, yeah...I know the ratification and all is over now (There have
been some rather serious medical issues in my family as of late, so
keeping track of the bid process for C16 was COMPLETELY out of my
train of thought). That said, I am extremely happy that this bid was
submitted. I used to live in Salt Lake City and found Park City to be
a wonderful getaway. The C* crowd should find it most excellent.
