Commodore Royal Yachts Anthony Morrow said today: "I believe we must ensure
whatever happens to this ship is dignified." As Britannia entered the Royal
Navy base, escorted by the destroyer HMS Southampton, one yacht among the
numbers fussing around her, carried a banner asking "Why?" There were tears as
she moved to her berth as the Royal Marines band on board played Auld Lang
Syne, then Rule Britannia.
