The valet/butler also stayed up all night, sitting beside the coffin at
Kensington Palace. It was reported that he left a note inside the coffin
that read: "The ship has lost it's Captain."

Diana's staff were given notice just days after the accident, and have
three months to clear out. This will save Charles $625,000 annually,
which he had to shell out as part of his divorce deal.

Diana's loyal butler, Paul Burrell, has been appointed a member of the
team which decides what charities will receive donations from the
funds pouring in.

Diana called him " her rock". He accompanied her to
both Angola and Bosnia . He has said that he will never betray her in death
as so many she once trusted did in life.

I wonder why a black dress was chosen for
Diana ? I would think someone might have chosen either a dazzling glam
style in a gown of a bright color or a pastel suit or dress such as we have
seen her in this year. And what of the accessories ? She had lovely costume
pearls in all styles. The long sleeves might have been needed to cover the
damage to her broken arm or bruising but black is too too grim when one is
in a casket for a good long time. If ever there was a time to go for broke
in choosing an outfit , that was it !

I read that this was the only dress she had bought for the fall season so far,
strangely enough, it was by Catherine Walker a favourite designer of Diana's. I
think it is sort of fitting that it was used.

I found it incredible that a black dress was the only item she had bought
from the fall collection. One wonders what she had planned to wear it for;
certainly not her own funeral, and yet her unconsciously fitting choice
seems staggering. Sometimes relatives do strange things in their grief. I
chose my father's army uniform to bury him in even though he hadn't worn
it for 35 years; I would have thought the relatives would choose one of
Diana's favourite gowns. I hate to think they couldn't bear to part with
any of them. I didn't want to part with my father's uniform either but
some things that are hard just seem right.

Does anybody think Diana knew somehow her days were numbered &
that is why she worked hard and played hard?
After I read the 1st Morton biography with all the photos of
her childhood, I had a eerie feeling like she had been diagnosed
with something terminal and she wanted to set the record straight
in the form of a lasting biography. Same for the gown auction;the
only time I can recall a gown auction of someone still living and
not the estate of a deceased.
Diana seemed to wear a very dark navy and some black after
the divorce,especially.
I just saw a Fergie Weight Watchers commercial on tv last
night(NOT the papparizi one) & Fergie had on an off the shoulder
long black gown on, and she either looked fantastic or a bit
too thin!(The too thin might be my sour grapes.)
I buried my late mother in a lovely ivory colored pant=suit
which she designed & tailored herself. (Purchased ivory blouse,
tailored with sort of an ascot type bow, tied over not in a bow.)
I insisted they not use mascara or eye-shadow but to be sure &
do the eyebrows properly(thin line) and use the correct shade
of lipstick. She wore one of her wigs. And her eyeglasses. The
only thing missing were her pearls and rings. I was the only
person responsible and I wanted to be sure it was perfectly
done and it was. Down to the last detail:"Pieta" prayer-cards. DSS
