Because the only thing he can draw is he's monthly cheque from the civil
list, and the only artists he knows are/were piss artists.
Wat
Prince William receives no money from the Civil List. With the death of the
Queen Mother, it will only be paid now to the Queen and the Duke of
Edinburgh.
If you take the trouble to look, you will see that the Government and other
agencies publish details about the Royal finances on the internet.
Since 1760 the Monarchy has surrended its Crown Estates profits to the
Exchequer. Details for the last fiscal year ended April 2002 are not yet
out, but in the previous tax year, good stewardship of these estates
resulted in profits of around £133 million being paid into the Exchequer,
from which Parliament then refunded about £7.9 million for the Civil List.
The Queen is then required to pay back Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax on
her personal income. (The Civil List will be "frozen" until 2011, even
though it is highly likely that the Crown Estates profits paid to the
Exchequer will increase).
There are other grants paid by the government (the internet-published
balance sheet gives all the details), but all in all the British taxpayer
benefits by this arrangement by around £96 million.

im hoping hes going to take an active role in the environment, albeit
its a political hotbed and could cause conflict of interest in the
future. the media whether he likes it or not is going to hound him
like they did his mother and perhaps like his mother his view will be
why keep the hoards of photographers in the UK when he can take them
on roadshows and have the glare of the spotlight shine on real
problems (ie landmines) like the sad shape of the planet.
He kept getting lost in the palace corridors looking for his granny's pictures?
HM found out he plans to spray-paint graffiti on the side of
Buckingham Palace when he becomes king?
His father decided one art critic in the family was enough?
He invited Christo to "wrap" Camilla Parker-Bowles?
He tried to charge other students admission to look at his unmade bed?
His teachers found out he thought most of the portraits of HM were really good?
His teachers found out he thought his father's watercolours were really good?

Can William go into the Diplomatic Service? I'm thinking of a possible stint as an ambassador, if
his father lives long enough that William will need/want a career.

I have to say that while I like them, I am also not a professional critic.
Then again, I find professional critics are often just lucky stiffs who
get their opinions published somewhere... :-)

I doubt it. at least not until a very long, costly, legal fight was over.
Remember that Crown Lands are different from the Crown Estates.
While it has been determined that Parliament has a right to determine the
succession to the crown there has never, at least to my mind, been a successful
argument that parliament has a right to abolish the monarchy- a completely
different thing.

I quite like Charles's paintings too. I can't wait for fox hunting to be
totally banned so I can finally say I like him as a whole.
Perhaps he decided he didn't like the art history course and the geography seemed
to suit him better? I think it's pretty common for a first-year university
student to be trying to find what path he wants to follow. The Prince did say
in an interview last year, IIRC, that he wasn't sure what he wanted to do after
completing his degree, but was interested in doing something with the environment. Geography would seem to be much more appropriate if that is, in
fact, his interest.
