Nude Bush painting removed from museum display
CNews World
October 8, 2004

Washington artist Kayti Didriksen's painting "Man of Leisure, King George"
depicts President Bush in the well-known style of Manet's "Olympia", as he is
presented with his crown by a depiction of Vice President Dick Cheney.
(AP/Artomatic, Jim Tretick)
--------------
I was under the impression that there was freedom of speech in this country.
Hope the artist does a painting of Laura, who incidentily used to sell drugs in
college, according to Kitty Kelley. She also liked her dope and has used
cocaine many times (I guess it was her generation). George was a bad influence
on her in those days.

The blond daughter of the Bush's, with the big round face (sometimes a sign of
boozing), apparently likes her drinks also, according to the bar hopping
stories where she was carried out because she was unable to walk. I guess she
was celebrating passing her exams, and getting her degree (although she did not
attend the ceremony).

What a bunch. We will see what happens next week, and if we get this country
back to where it was when Clinton was in office, when everyone had a job
(because they were available) and we were not spending $2.5 billion a week
trying to reform a country where the people respect our involvement enough to
behead us, and have almost brought us down to their level.

The only thing of value is the oil, and of course the construction businesses
which made Cheney very wealthy.

Both candidates mud-sling, but at least Kerry seems to have some brain power.
Something has to change soon, or we are in big trouble. Just my thoughts for
all you Bush fans...
---------------

WASHINGTON (AP) -

A cartoonish painting of President George W. Bush in the nude has been taken
down from the wall at the City Museum of Washington. The picture, called Man of
Leisure, King George, adopts the pose of a famous Impressionist painting,
Edouard Manet's Olympia, that scandalized Paris in 1863, and now hangs in the
Gare d'Orsay Museum in Paris.

The painting by Washington artist Kayti Didriksen, shows a caricature of Bush,
reclining in the nude on a chaise lounge, his head propped up by pillows.
Instead of the female servant who stands behind Olympia's couch, a man in suit
and tie resembling Vice-President Dick Cheney stands nearby, holding a cushion
with a crown and a miniature oil rig on top of it.

The painting was part of a "living room art" show called Funky Furniture - a
variety of painted furniture and other items that were set up in the museum
last week. Expected to formally open this month, the show, including the Bush
painting, was abruptly shut down Monday after some of the artists' themes were
considered unsuitable.

Myra Peabody Gossens, a public relations consultant for the museum, said the
exhibit was not what had been expected. "The museum is not an art museum," she
explained. "It gets mostly groups of children, with teachers trying to tell
them something about history."

In addition to the Bush painting, the exhibit included a decorated church pew
with pictures and writing that accused the late president Ronald Reagan of
ignoring the AIDS crisis and an end table decorated with drug paraphernalia
with a quote from former District of Columbia mayor Marion Barry, who was
jailed for drug possession.

"This is not what we were bargaining for. We thought we were getting functional
furniture," Leslie Shapiro, co-chairman of the museum's board of directors,
told the Washington Post newspaper. The City Museum of Washington, operated by
the Historical Society of Washington, is primarily a place where local and
regional history is on display.

The museum's executive board decided the museum was "not an appropriate venue"
for the exhibit. Art-O-Matic 2004, a confederation of local artists which
organized the project, now is looking for another space to house the exhibit,
said Jim Tretick, a member of the group's board of directors. "About a dozen
people may have seen it on Sunday," said Tretick. "The exhibit wasn't
completely mounted. Then it was taken down on Monday when the museum was
closed."

Kitty Kelly! Boy, she's a reliable source of information. *sigh*.
My German chemist friend just returned from Germany and told me that 'Michael
Moore is a national hero in Germany.'
*sigh*. Don't we realize that we are slip-sliding into socialism? It pains me
how disrespectful we are of the President and the Office of President. I fear
we have forgotten our hard-fought history. Did my ancestors die for nothing,
for the empty lies and promises of polititians? Sorry to say, but people are
getting stupid, everybody is so spoiled and looking for a handout at the great
breast of America. It makes me so mad to see people come here and complain! We
have it so good. Go to any hospital and you will see people getting good
medical care who will NEVER pay a bill. People often don't have medical
insurance because they have not taken advantage of state programs. Ihave a
friend from England who is now an American citizen who had no insurance. He
never bothered to see if he qualified for low-income state (which he did). He
came down with leukemia and went straight to the local hospital ICU (because he
had pneumonia and undiagnosed leukemia) and has had the best of care for 6
weeks! No insurance. We have the best medical care in the world and there are
many who would socialize and make a government sponsored thing of it. It will
be a dark day for us. My friend from England would be dead , and I would be
too---for I have been the recipient of great medical care.

You can blame the Republicans for that.

More likely to slip slid into another civil war than socialism in the
next decade or two.

Well, politicians have always lied and people have always died because
of them. Whether or not your ancestors died for nothing is, obviously,
subjective.

Sorry to say, but people are

Why? Because they believe or because they don't believe what they are
told by politicians, advertisers or big business? Other?

Come by my neighborhood, see all the food stamps and coupons passing
across the counters of stores.

When I became a citizen last December, medical information for low and
no income citizens was given out before the voter registration forms. I
assume your friend became a citizen before this was the practice. Did
he register to vote or did he not bother about that form either? I hope
he did and will use his vote come November 2.

But if he doesn't pay for it, who does? Tax-payers. Government tax
laws. Just how do you think that differs from the government paying for
health care of people who can't afford it, or, as your friend, didn't
bother to look into government sponsored health care.

Ah, well, there you have it -- no health care or health care benefits
will save any of us from the Grim Reaper!
g'luck though!

What a ninny.

It is hard to believe that you said that SC. But
knowing you and your screed, I guess it should
come as no surprise.

You and your ilk might very well bring Armageddon
to this world and you will still claim it was a
Republican thing as you try to storm the gates of
heaven.

If you check the history of censorship in this country, and it is lengthy
particularly with regard to books, you will find that those Right of the
Middle of the Road are far more likely to ask that something not be made
available to the public than are those on the Left.

Check out the list of books that have been banned in various parts of the
U.S.

I was actually talking about the mocking of the president, but trust the

That's rich, a young, ignorant bimbo calling
someone an idiot.

I was also talking about the mocking of the
president. Your compatriot took it out of
context.

I would like to put you one day with Ron Silver or
Mr. Liebermann,
Judge Judy or even Joan Rivers.

Incidentally I saw a rabbi on the news last week.
He was about as informed and intelligent that I
have ever seen on TV. BTW, he was a staunch
republican.

Believe me, a government-run health care system would be very bad for us.
Anyone and anyhing that comes between the doctor-patient relationship (and that
includes insurace co. boards!) is only going to bring quality down and put a
damper on physician's abililities.

As for food stamps and the like----isn't it good that we have them? It is a
safety net, not meant to be a permanent thing. People that have food stamps are
not falling through the cracks. It is the "Democrats", traditionally that spend
more on social services, welfare and the like. Some believe that by overusing
these services and overfunding them, we are actually encouraging dependency and
a permanent underclass. God bless America.

If you're going to murrmur and complain about how rough it is here, go back
where you came from. I don't understand why people come here, avail themselves
of unprecedented generosity, and then have the nerve to try and tear it down!
No, it is not perfect, and yes, things can always improve---but I can tell you,
people coming in here now 1)don't know our history (or learn a white-washed,
reconstructed version), 2) are in no hurry to learn English language, 3) look
to the government (read: taxpaying, law abiding citizens) for handouts,
4)expect to get services such as schooling and medical care, regardless of
legal status (illegal immigrants),5) bring their social problems of crime and
gang warfare here and then blame it on our American system-----not
everyone---but enough that it is making an impact. I live in a state which has
scores of illegal immigrants. I cannot tell you what a problem it is---in
school, hospitals, and even if you are involved in a car accident and the other
party not only doesn't have a drivers license, but no insurance, which is
required by law, but not enforced! They beg you not to call the police and
often offer to pay you for damages in cash. It is very sad.

Ever thought to ask yourself why? Maybe something to do with the
people holding the Office!

More likely to slip into being a monarchy: Bush, Bush then another
Bush???

I SEE you have already forgotten your history. OF COURSE your
ancestors died for the empty lies and promises of politicians. It was
ever thus....

No, they are 'stupid' because they don't have the same opinion as her.

Well, some of 'everybody' don't look for "handout"s from America's
"breast."

SIX WHOLE WEEKS?? Blimey, he must have been really ill then...

Well, for six weeks, anyway... Or for those who can afford it - but,
we can't let "anything" interfere with the doctor/patient relationship
can we - oh, except for money of course...

I'm not sure anyone this stupid should be wished good luck to be saved
from the Grim Reaper even for another minute. Anyway, I'm sure the
Great Breast of America confers all sorts of special benefits, or she
would have expired at birth.

Good thing you don't need to worry about medical insurance then, isn't
it? How's your friend doing, btw, you don't talk about him any more.
