An 18th-century painting,``Portrait of Lady Elizabeth Hervey Holding a
Dove,'' was smuggled out of the country after World War II will be turned
over to German authorities in New York this week. The painting was done in
1778 by Johann Friedrich August Tischbein and stolen by United States GIs
from a castle. It has an estimated worth of $50,000, and once popped up at
Sotheby's, New York. Those GIs probably offered nylons and chocolate bars
for the painting. Ya gotta love 'em , they saved our world and fought for
our freedom..................................and won.
