Exco Resources Inc. Chief Executive Douglas Miller is considering
buying a portion of the Dallas-based oil and natural-gas company after
he had trouble raising financing to take the entire company private,
people familiar with the matter said.
Mr. Miller is studying a leveraged buyout with a "public stub,"
meaning a portion of the company would be private and the remaining
stake could still be publicly traded, these people added. Such a
structure would allow Mr. Miller to raise less financing than required
for his October, $4.4 billion offer to take the whole company private
